Hi...I have a new 2013 Prerunner double cab with about 1800 miles on it with the 2.7 with an automatic trans. From a dead stop under full throttle it seems to bog down and as I let up on the gas it actually speeds up. It spent all day at the dealer where I purchased it and they said everything was up to specs but that others had the same issue and Toyota may put out a service bulletin later. Has anyone else had this problem? I know it is a 4 cylinder and it is a truck, but it just seems the performance is not what it should be. It also downshifts going up an interstate overpass when the cruise control is on. Any suggestions? Try another dealer? Or is this just the characteristic of this engine and transmission?

Not sure about the bogging, but the downshifting whiel climbing hills is normal - even with cruise control.

It's a 4 cylinder, get use to it. Especially a double cab.

I just dumped a 1997 with the 2.7L 4-cyl engine (& 5-speed) because I thought it was a total slug/dog/boat anchor and then we bought an '06 with the V6. What an amazing difference. My gas mileage is actually BETTER with the V6 by about 2.0 mpg. My thought is that the old 2.7L four may still be around for those buyers who want the cheapest, stripped-down truck. It's not too great if you expect any form of performance.

    OME AAL,
This is related to the intake manifold pressure, you cant just slam your foot on the gas and expect it to go. Try this, start from dead stop, push the gas paddle 1/4 of the way down and keep pushing in the gas slowly, you will see constant power increase, the reason why when you let go of the gas it goes faster is that the as you let go of the accelerator the pressure in the manifold becomes within the spec and the truck starts to pick up. Try it and you will be happy, startoff quick and keep increasing your push on the accelerator and let me know.

Have you tried putting some Viagra in the gas? The commercials all say it helps with performance issues.
