Cepeks and black wheels...Was it used? Interesting observation about the interiors and women. My Sister always hated my Jeeps, (said the ride made her sea-sick) but recently bought a new unlimited

Brand spanking new, 2013. I might have to drive that thing at some point, just for kicks.

sometimes you get motion-sick when other people drive, but when you are behind the wheel you aren't affected.

I came from a JKU to my Tacoma(s). Mine was a 2010 with the 3.8. Hated the engine. Interior felt extremely cheap compared to the Tacoma. Hell, my 2012 TRD Sport feels like a high powered luxury vehicle compared to the JKU.

I will say this, my wife has a new Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Pentastar. I love it. Nothing remotely close to that shitty 3.8 I had in the JKU. Having that engine in a JKU may be a totally different ballgame.

I had always been a "Jeep" guy, and I did what a couple of other guys did in this thread. I got a less expensive TJ with the 4.0 for my Jeep fix while having the Tacoma for every day. You can find great TJ's for the price of a new KTM dirt bike. That 4.0 will run forever. It laughs at 150K miles.

    This was my JKU:

    SAM_1567_ea3bf976a60a6e48210c94a18078ac15f106c624.jpg

One great thing about the JK's is that you can sneeze on them and fit 35's.

In the pic above, I was running 35x12.50x17 MTR's on AEV Beadlocks. Suspension was a 3.5" Rock Krawler lift. Could have easily fit 37's. But driving it was a chore. It was geared and I had a Superchips Flashpaq.

To me, the newer Tacoma's and the JKU's are just too different to compare equally.

This past weekend, I hauled 4 dudes, gear, and two full size dirtbikes in my truck comfortably. No trailer. Never could have happened in the JKU.

The Jeep wranglers and the tacos seem to appeal to the same people. I like both, but like most chose the Toyota because of truck bed and/or toyota reliability but if I didn't need a truck, I wouldn't mind driving around in one of these.

^ My TJ, (6cyl) would go 18 or 19 mixed, tested by replenishing spent fuel for a specific distance...Your Jeep is a bit heavier, so that's damn good, if you trust the 'puter

What gears are the in your jeep? the automatics in the Rubicons come with 3.73's, and 4.10's are an option.

Did you already check the engine in that 8000 miler to see if the heads are updated?

Good point. If its got a build date of 2012, it could have a bad head.

I like the Jeeps, especially the Rubicons. But, I talked to a local service manager and they have had an issue with the new Pentastar engine with cylinder heads cracking and having to be rebuilt. Tacoma's rarely have issues. But, if you don't need the bed and the vehicle fits your needs, and makes you happy, GO FOR IT.

For reference, the Julian date for the engine build is hand written in Sharpie below the crankshaft pulley. The head version is stamped on the backside of the head, should end in "AD". That's kind of from memory when I was researching the JKUR's. See this thread:

Its an exhaust valve seat thats the issue, and they are replacing the heads with new re engineered ones.

Having revised the replacement head 3 times is what worried me into not buying a pentastar jeep. That QC/QA is not very good.
