    Hey all,

I'll be moving in/around Concord area this month for school and I'm wondering if y'all could tell me of some areas that perhaps I should avoid. I'm looking at a house this sunday that's nearby the Sleep Train Pavilion, on Flagstone Way, so if you guys could give any ideas/suggestions that'd be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks :)

That's a pretty good area, actually! Just stay away from Monument street. Detroit as well. Any where in the Clayton area (just a tad above Concord - some still call it Concord) is awesome.

Only a few blocks away from Sleep Train and you will find yourself in Clayton which is considered a more desired place to live between the two. I myself have looked for housing there.

too far from the highway for me.

i actually live closer to monument. off of cowell rd. not too bad. i've called the cops twice and the speed in which they arrive is mind blowing. concord cops are pretty bad ass.

calvin..where you going to school? DVC or some nursing program? if i were single, i would opt for walnut creek.

i run the gauntlet of monument to get to the highway. some pretty retarded drivers there. but i like my neighborhood. culdesac full of old folks. built in neighborhood watch...but they are nosy as eff.

If you look in the Pleasant hill area West of Contra Costa Blvd, there are a lot of older small homes that are for rent....

I used to live in Concord, left 2.5 years ago for Virginia, so much cheaper...

    good luck...

Oh, I lived on Fox Meadow Way, Concord for 32 years, pretty close to the monument blvd area, when I was back there this March for a visit, the whole neighborhood had a very different flavor...you definitely probably want to find a place to live away from that area, as the previous poster stated...

Stay away from Monument, Detroit, etc. Certain areas off of Olivera/Port Chicago should probably be avoided too.

Near Sleep Train Pavilion is nice. You'll see lots of traffic at concert times, and you'll probably even be able to hear the concerts on a quiet night. I grew up in Clayton. The downside to that area is you are pretty far from any freeway. You're a good 15 minutes from either 680 in Walnut Creek or HWY 4 in Pittsburg (over Kirker Pass).

If you want to be closer to a freeway, check out the Landana area (near Concord High School) nice, but older neighborhoods and you'll be closer to a freeway. Or closer to Pleasant Hill or Bay Point.

I live in Bay Point now, on the Concord border and I love it. Now, most areas of Bay Point should be avoided too lol. But I'm in the suburbs haha. I live about 3 minutes from the freeway.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I've lived in the area for over 20 years.

    Thanks so much everyone.

@aficianado - I'm going to Gurnick Medical. It's a private program right at the corner of waterworld pkwy and willow pass rd.

So I'm looking at a few places this weekend, one of them being a room in the Renaissance Square Apartments on Galindo x Willow Pass. It's really close to my school, the rent is reasonable, looks nice, underground parking, and close to police station. Other location right next to Sunvalley Mall is larger and rent's a bit cheaper, but I'd rather avoid being close to a mall for personal preferance.

dood..i would be able to hit you with a good golf ball swing. nice, close to downtown concord. not saying much. we have a lame DT area. but it does host a pretty good farmers market.

those are nice apartments!!! i think those were supposed to be sold as condo, but then the market imploded. do it!!

Arent those places expensive? Oh and There's a Safeway right down the road from you a couple of blocks away. And down the street from that Safeway there's that park where a lot of drunks and druggies hang out.

But that's also near Todos Santos plaza, which is a nice little place to hang out. Farmer's market, summer bands play there...They put the Holiday Christmas Tree there. :) Restaurants.

A lot more things happening there than over by the mall.

How come you never joined us for our little dinner meets out in Concord? I live over the hill, Chris lives in Concord, Eric lives in WC, Lucas lives in Colorado but has flown out to join us. :) I miss Lucas. :(

SoBaySick, you are more than welcome to join us as well. We should have another one soon, I think Chris is going to arrange it.

Thanks for the heads up. And yes, they are expensive, but I'd be paying a 1/3 of total rent, not half, which puts it right into my budget :D

We got more Concord members? I thought only me and Lucas lived in Concord. We'll have to do a Sushi dinner nite or something next Friday.

    Sounds good!

Those apartments are real nice! I had a friend that lived there. Also, nice safe area within walking distance to downtown.

    .
Eric (trd4life), recommended a place called My Sushi up on Clayton Rd, it's next to Mountain Mike's Pizza and the Goodwill in the 3500 block IIRC.
