You shouldnt need spacers. The reason why some people need spacers on stock wheels is because they run wider tires than stock. Wider tires like 285+ will rub the UCA with the stock wheels, 255s should be fine, but if you want to double check ask the same question in this thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/155849-255-85-r16-owners-experience.html

That's more prevalent with 285's , because of the width

just curious (and this is probably the wrong place to ask, anyway  ), but is there a certain (minimum) wheel backspace you would need to run 285s and not do the cab mount chop?

0 offset is probably your best bet but there are more factors to consider. Anything less and you might rub the UCA, the farther the tire sticks out more likely to need the CMC

I can tell you I get just a little rub on the frame with 275s at full steer no compression, but only in reverse. I believe the BS is 0. My next set of tires will be a 265 because rubbing issues only get worse under compression on the trail.

OZ, you're a walking encyclopedia. What's the thickness of the Toyotech spacer (in mm) that'll gain me about 3/4" lift? I need to know if I should theirs or OME.

OME doesnt make top plate spacers, they just make the trim packer to corrcect taco lean.
Here is toytecs spacer for 3/4" i dont know why the picture is wrong Heres all the top plate spacers wheelers offers, shows you thickness and aprox. Lift

Wait, you're not OZ ;) those were the spacers we were looking at from TT. I was looking at a kit from wheelers yesterday, there was a10mm good for about 1/2" and another good for 3/4". TT doesn't have the thickness anywhere, and I want the thickest I can get.

There we go: I measured today, and my front end is 1.5" lower than the rear. I don't mind a little rake, but not that much!

And now that I'm home looking at your link and my link side by side, what the hell is the difference?

255s will work great on those wheels without spacers. The reasons I got 1st Gen TRDs (4.5" BS the equivalent of 3/4" spacers) were too good of a deal to pass up ($100 for 4) & at the time I had a 280 to 350 mile/week commute and could swap tires/wheels for commuting or off road.

It can be done but it's a lot easier if you have someone else to slide the bolt in.

I think the worst was working the heavy spring in between the axle and the E-brake lines . I had the axle supported on two jack stands with a block under the pinion for stability, and the truck was set up by the frame on two other 5-ton jack stands. I was able to work the leaf pack onto the axle (carefully for balance) and bolt the front in first. Luckier than hell I had the axle close to the right height for the whole operation. :D Once both sides were done I did up the u-bolts and then used a jack under the diff to pivot the whole mess skyward until I could wrestle the rear ends into the shackles.

The stupid things you do when you are young?

Soooooooooo, hands down I should get the Emu spacer and longer bolt kit? And why does OME carry a 10mm, 13mm, 1/4", and 1/2" spacers all listed separately?
