We have a new born with a Graco car seat classic connect model. It fits good in my truck, but how do I secure it in? Can I use the latches with my Tacoma?

You can use either the latch or seatbelt

    Both are equally effective

Where do the latches connect though? On the latch that secures the truck seat?

if you reach in-between the seat back and seat base there are loops near the female part of the seat belt(the part with the red button that you push to release it)

Id recommend going to a fire department in your area. They should be able to assist in installing. You would be surprised how many people install car seats wrong.

i disagree on the seatbelt being just as effective. Use the latches. That's what they are there for.

Latch system works great on my 12. Very secure, just look between the seat back and bottom of the seat as previously stated.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
Agree on latches being better than the seatbelt. On top of the firehouse helping with the install, Babies r us sometimes does them too. I know the one by our house said if we got our car seat from them they would do it for free. They also had 1 certified person who did them.

    I'm a certified seat installer

    They're equally effective

Latch is only good up to 40lbs though

Agreed. I feel the seat belt is the better choice for one primary reason:

The latch system is only available for use with the outside seats and cannot be used for the center (middle) seat. I personally have my infant seat in the center using the seat belt because he is safer there than on driver/passenger sides in case of side collisions.

I watched some YouTube videos from Graco and did the seat belt version. Was very secure.

Using both is not recommended and the seat should actually be able to move about an inch or so when properly installed

Thats how it was mentioned on the instructions. I will double check.
Could be because its a car seat base that uses both the latches
    And the seat belt???

Then the infant car seat attaches to the base

Those of you with a child of ~40lbs., any of you secure your child seat in the rear center location of your double cabs?

I have mine behind the passenger seat because I couldn't imagine trying to get my daughter in the center position...

Re-read your instruction manual...ill bet it says either but not both together

Almost all seats are manufactured now to use either as latch is far easier to use, but after 40lbs, many center seats, or older vehicles requires the use of a seat belt

Using the latch system properly and getting it tightened properly is easier than the seat belt. They may both be as effective when used properly, but it's easier to use the latch properly. None of the figuring out which kind of locking inertia reals you have, no shoulder harness getting in the way, it's easier and harder to do wrong, that's why they are there.

As far as where are they, there should be a little latch symbol on the back part of the seat that shows where they are. I guess I knew where they would be based on other vehicles I've had so I didn't look for the symbols, but they should be there on the back and the latch should be right below between the back and bottom of the seat.

The bigger challenge comes when they go forward facing and you have the third strap over the back of the seat. That is a PITA.

There are latch points for all three positions in the rear of a double cab. You can also use the seatbelt providing it is switchable to ALR mode (Auto locking rectrator) where you pull it all the way out and it ratchets back in.

Its easier to use the latch system, very simple and perfectly suitable for an infant. when they become forward facing the top tether anchor point is on the back of the cab behind the seat.

Read the instructions that came with the seat. Read the info in the Tacoma manual too. If in doubt, take it to a fire hall and have them help you.

Lots of good info in this thread. However, I have a 2009 and it only has latch points on either side of the double cab, NOT in the center position. Maybe Canada version is different? :notsure:
