Long story short, I kind of got the phone for free and I really want to like it but coming from my iPhone 5 is quite difficult. I'm already running in battery saving mode but it doesn't really help but I'm open to suggestions.

Keep wifi turned off when you're not using it, otherwise it's constantly searching for a hotspot. Download a task manager off the market to keep programs from unnecessarily running. Try to find one that you can set up to kill all operations every 15 min, 30 min, 45 min, whatever you want. If you don't, you have operations constantly trying to sync, update, etc. That's two major things that I can think of.

You might want to check on the Google location service thing. Seems like since i upgraded my razr maxx to JB, Google seems to know a lot about me. Like when i am getting ready to leave for work it tells me how traffic looks on my route and vice versa on the way home. It also tells me the weather. All without setting any of this up. I guess it "learned" based on my habits... creepy.

That seemed to drain my battery a bit but i wasnt concerned enough to look for how yo kill it. If you see what looks like a little target in the upper left corner i believe thats google checking up on you :spy:

this plagues droids. i like them, and i think they do many things better than iphones, but the short battery life fuckin ruined it for me. as soon as the OS dials that in, i will switch back over. i need my phone to last at least a whole day, and most of the time im able to get two days out of my iphone 4s. but like i said, as soon as Android better manages its power, i will switch over. I dont know why they couldnt do something similar to iOS, as iOS only runs parts of the open apps that absolutely NEED to be run when you're not in the app. if that makes sense. it would appear that droids run the whole apps in the background, and thats what kills them so fast.

The task killer is a good one. I had one that would kill all the tasks every time i turned my screen off. It had this "crazy kill" mode that killed everything...aka restarted the phone

Turn your mobile data off as well if your not using it. put all your memory on an external card....

Are you the original owner of the phone? If not the battery might just be in need of replacement.

Turn your screen brightness down as well.

First, check your battery stats and see what the top drains are. Go to battery in settings and then touch the battery timeline to get a more detailed view. Also install CPU spy which will tell you how long your CPU is running at different speeds. I really wouldn't install any app manager type things, JB is much better than the older google os's and it manages itself pretty well.

Then, go to your accounts and see what you have automatically syncing. I generally keep everything off except for gmail, google calendar, and google music. Anything else isn't needed, so if you have Facebook and/or Dropbox check and make sure they aren't on auto.

What kind of time are you getting? What did you get wi the iPhone? I usually get about 12 to 14 hours with my s3.

It was new in the box. Not sure why the so called next best thing can't last a days use right out of the box, my 5 would last 2 days pretty regularly.

That's the biggest issue with android. And the reason I have an iPhone now. Loved everything about the droid minus. the battery

like you bought it or it was given to you?

I use to buy and sell phones for a little extra money and I got sold a "brand new" phone that was maybe a month old, well the owner left it plugged in for that whole time just using it as an ipod basically so the battery was pretty much done for after 4-5 hours. Something to think about.

If you purchased it new talk to samsung and complain, probably will get your money back. I have never been a fan of the galaxy phones.....

I traded my i5 for it straight up and I'm regretting it since, it was new in the box. I would have rooted and installed a custom rom already but since the phone is relatively new the xda forms don't have much support.

check into battery swapping for a better one or a replacement.

I can throw a razr maxx battery into my atrix even though both are "nonremovable" batteries

SOME custom kernels are ok, but most are overclocked and eat the shit out of your battery. work better than the stock one though...
