besides the guard guys, I think all the active duty guys I knew are gone.

yeah, our shop is small but it's nice. we have more jobs for stuck screws than for fab so it works out.

 

LOL, I know Malcom. I volunteer for First robotics completion with him. I'm actually the lead machinist at BAE Systems. I wasn't able to volunteer to work the mobile machine shop this year cause of my back surgery.

 

thats awesome, ive seen him welding the robot parts. hes really good people

 

you should come visit me at DD4 sometime. My machine shop is old school tho. No CNC at all. We don't even have DRO...

just a single mill and lathe though.

 

that'd be cool. no DRO? thats barbaric haha. but if you can do it without, its like a dream with one lol

 

(not bragging but) we got 4 CNC mills, 2 manual mills, 3 manual lathes, 2 cnc lathes, a water jet, and thats just the machine shop.

Yeah, Malcolm is constantly bragging about his CNC and Omax. We rarely make the same thing twice, so its hard for the upper management to justify the cost of CNC when we do just fine with an engine lathe from the '50s and a few bridgeports. Most of the stuff we do is repair existing parts. Rarely do any mass manufacturing. We are in the process of getting a new lathe soon tho. We tried to put in for a jet, but they said no... again.
But the little machines we put in the mobile machine shop has DRO tho...

 

I thought blocks dont ride so good? I was debating on going with some 1" blocks in the rear if i do 1.75" in the front on 5100s

I'd love to do 3" but I dont wanna buy UCAs that extra 1" is expensive haha

 

actually u wont feel much of a difference. a block wont do anything but rase you an inch if thats all your getting. Add-a-leafs will affect the ride more because they will stiffen your leaf pack. blocks are pretty much bad if you stack them, or seriously off road (nothing on oahu even counts for serious off road) due to risk of over extending your stock leaf pack and breaking a leaf.

spacers do more damage up front because your putting more strain on your front coil shock. from what i understand. please correct me if im wrong.

I was always under the general consensus to stay away from blocks as well, but if 1" would be fine sounds like a perfect match for 1.75" Billy's

is this gonna be out of aluminum?

 

yup, even the welding booth is pretty new.

the only thing we really mass produce is bushings, but the exact sizing always varies.

i'm looking forward to playing with solidworks. need to design subframe mounts and chassis reinforcements for my car

 

his current blocks are made of steel.
but i guess it could be made out of aluminum
