need help on repair pricing

so my friend hit the side of my black 04 on a pole it hit the door and the panel behind the door that is attatched to the roof. how much is it going to cost to get just the panel behind the door replaced? junk yard best bet? any one parting out a 1st gen black tacoma?

 

So is your "friend" paying for these expenses? That pillar that connects your roof will be a bit pricey. This will have to be cut out and welded back on, so you are looking at the cost of that along with the price of paint on it. I would be looking at doing an insurance claim if he/she isn't willing to pay for it.

 

so you cant just go take one off a car in the junk yard? or do you think that they could bang it out? it is metal im pretty sure.

 

It would depend on the extent of the damage. Is there a crease in the dent? If you could show me a picture I would be able to tell you more of what could be done to get it back to original shape.

 

the dent isn't small it covers half the panel almost from the bottom to the window. and i have a picture on my phone but i have no way to get it on the computer.

 

What type of cab do you have? I'll check out the first gens. I don't know much about them. If there is a hard crease, to where you can see a definate line in the metal you will not be able to pound it out. If it is a clean dent, meaning all areas of the dent are fairly rounded you should be able to pound this out without much issue. However if it is part of the roof support you will most likely have to get it cut out to do any repairs if it cannot merely be pulled. I guess I'm having some issues understanding where exactly it is.

Ok, I was looking up some of the different cab styles on the 1st gen tacos and from the way it sounds you have an extended cab. Unlike the 2nd gen this is a fixed section, however they should be fairly similar in what you would do for repair. If you are able to pop this dent out you could do it one of two ways. First way would be to use a suction device to try and pull it out, this doesn't work that well for a large dent, which sounds like you have. The other route you could take is from the inside of the cab. you should be able to remove the panels from inside the cab and you will be able to pound it out from inside the cab. You may have to cut out some of the reinforcement structures to get to it. This is ok cause when you would weld it back in you don't have to get everything perfect like you would the outside just make sure you coat it with something to prevent it from rusting at all. If this does not work I would really suggest taking to a body shop and having them do the repairs as they would have to cut part of the body out and weld in the new section, then try and match the paint. It would be ok to hit up a junk yard before going in and chopping off this entire section to take into the body shop, they will use it. Just make sure you hit the shop before the junk yard so you know exactly how much they will need from the other truck for structural integrity. Hope it works out for you.
