All-Terrains rated for sever snow

Several all-terrains are rated for use in severe snow and are branded with the mountain / snowflake symbol. Three I can think of are:

BFG All Terrain KO (most sizes)
General Grabber AT2 (most sizes)
Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmour

Can anyone think of any more?

 

I think the GY Duratracs are rated with the snowflake symbol as well.

Right, the bfg's are not snowflake tires. The 3 others are, and so are the khumo SAT's.

On some sizes of the same tire, the traction index dips below the
requirement to use the symbol, which is 109 or below

same tire of a different size may pass at 110 or above

in the case of the BFG, it depends on size

If a particular tire has this issue (some have symbol, some don't) you can still
expect the tire to outperform any tire that doesn't have any size with the symbol,
but if the symbol is not on the sidewall it won't meet the 110 traction index spec

 

I know certain sizes don't qualify but looks like the tire websites are still selling them as rated. Where did you hear they didn't qualify anymore?

 

dammit! ofcourse the size i want they arent rated for severe snow. lol
but i was looking at the duratracs, what do they mean when they say on/off-road commercial traction?

 

Just as an FYI, even the rated ones are fucking hockey pucks in cold weather. The Duratracs have a much softer compound and will do miles better than the BFGs. (That and you can get them studded if need be.


That being said, the BFGs may very well last you over 80,000kms. The Duratracs not so much.

If you only get a little snow and it only really dips a few degrees below freezing where you're at, get the Duratracs and call it a day.

If like me, you get more snow than sunshine during the year, purchase dedicated winter tires. You'll spend the same amount of money in the long run (Cause you won't be running the summers the other half of the year and replacing them as quickly. You probably will actually save money if the tires save your ass from an accident.) and you'll be far more confident in the snow.

 

I get 50 / 50 here. Six months of -20c and snow and then six months of +30 sunshine.

But this thead isnt about which tire to buy or which tires are better than other tires, I just wanted to knock a quick list up of all terrains or all seasons that are rated for snow.
