Maybe some kind of big-ass puller? :notsure: Not sure if you could grab the wheel nuts with one, or use the wheel nuts to attach a thick plate to pull against; or a slide hammer.

I have a very large revolver if all else fails. :dancingbacon:

That coupler is sweet! Sorry I couldn't make the meet on Sat. I was finishing up some things on my 4Runner and spent some time with Wife & Baby in the PM.

    @Loudpedal,

For stuck drums, I usually use the bolt into threaded hole method... but since your threads are now stripped... doh!

After staring at your picture for a minute, the only two suggestions I have are to make sure you went the right direction w/the star adjuster (make sure ebrake is down, and both tires in the air, then try to spin the axle).

Beyond that I'd be looking at drilling a small hole (1/4" - 3/8" should do it) in the backside of the backing plate, near the edge, just big enough to hit the lip of the drum with a hammer/punch from the inboard side.

Makes sure e-brake is off. if it's off and you can't spin the tire by hand, adjust the drum through the little hole on the backside until you can spin it. if you can spin it by hand and it still won't come off, eff the mallet and use a bigger hammer. :D

    Silas,

Any idea why ECGS said I needed a double drilled flange on the rear 3rd? The current one looks single drilled.

This reminds me that I have an air chisel that most things cannot resist.

I took apart a chimney with it once. Much faster than a sledgehammer.

OK so I'll add some more info.
The studs are not attached to the drum, they are attached to (I'm assuming) the axle flange. Similar to the fronts being separate from the rotor.

E-brake was off. I could freely spin the drum by hand causing the other tire to spin the other way. I then learned it is hard to explain a differential to ages 4 and 6.

Also, the raised portion inboard of the studs is not part of the drum, according to all diagrams i have seen.

A coworker suggested mild heating with a torch for extra persuasion.

shit, forgot the drum simply sits on the lugs. I need to get a new brain.

Heat may do the trick. Can also try keeping an ice cube on each lug as you work around the drum, heating it up.

I'm sensing it may be BFH time.

Any thought to pulling the entire axle shaft and getting it on a bench? Maybe in a vise?

I'd be glad to lend you my air chisel, bits & compressor if you want; it's probably the biggest F'ing hammer you'll find. Are the studs frozen/rusted to the drum? Or is the drum frozen/rusted to the axle flange? Can you tell?

The hangup seems to be that raised lip. The studs are not the issue. I think.

The drum and the lip seem to be one (rust) but that doesn't jive with my intel.

I'm thinking that if we hit that raised lip w/ the air hammer, it might free the drum. We could also try the air hammer on the studs themselves a little at a time. The air hammer is amazing at loosening things that are reluctant to be loosened; way more force than you can typically get using a BFH. I also have a 4' pry bar, and the aforementioned huge freakin' revolver.

The revolver idea is always a good idea, regardless of situation.

Hmmm... I suppose a heat gun on the drum and freeze spray on the hub might be worth a try. :notsure: Freeze spray is not cheap, though.
