if your going to run portal boxs you will want lots of positive offset to help keep the portal box protected and combat scrub

Hosed off the dirt and grease. Looking pretty good, IMO. Found the date and BOM. Nov. 1st 1977 and 610023-6

Anyone know of a good source for SRW hubs/rotors? Or should I find someone to have the DRW hubs turned down?

Just turn them down and true up where the wheel will mount. I've have found that web wheelers will say it's dangerous but there are no accounts of hub failures and I know of a few people running turned down drw hubs with no problems.

On a side note, I now have leafs semi mounted. Still have to square stuff up and burn the tubes in, but it's alot closer now.

Also a pic with weight on the spring, there's still a couple inches of uptravel in there. Might add another leaf to the pack to try to get a lil more out of it.

I would find a Chevy D60 and steal the complete setup from the knuckle out. Chevy 60's are much easier to find (or should be, at least). The benefit is you won't have to fuck with converting DRW to SRW and you get the strong(er) steering knuckles. Ford D60 knuckles like to crack more often than Chevy's, from what I understand.

Yes this is true about the Knuckles cracking. Can probably be prevented by welding on gussets, lots of gussets. I have to disagree with Chevy 60s are easy to find, been trying to find parts off one and can't.

Depends where you live I guess. Seems like they are a dime a dozen out here on the west coast.

Shouldn't it be as simple as swapping over a SRW hub/rotor assembly? I'm not sure where I could get the DRW hub turned down locally. I got a close look at the knuckles and I don't see any cracking so I thought they'd be okay for now, especially under the taco. I figured I'd probably upgrade to Reids at some point anyway.

This is where you will want to check closely for cracks:

And by the time you do this:

You wont need to waste any money on Reids :D

They are a few companies out there that make a gusset kit, but I just cut my own out, twas easy.

^^^This. Theres always people looking to trade SRW for DRW so they can have even wider axles under their buggies.

This I like because one can find just as many instances of chevy knuckles breaking but everyone thinks fords are weaker (including me). Even the Dana60 Bible says fords are weaker and yet the picture they have of a broken knuckle is a chevy!

Interesting. I should read through the bible again but take that section with a grain of salt.

On another note, some packages arrived today :D ARB RD36 & RD114  Parts hoard progress side stepped a little when I found these bad boys but life will be 100x better with them.

Soooo.... anyone have any suggestions on removing the lower kingpins? I've tried letting them soak, I've tried heat, I've bent and/or chipped a few chisels trying to get them off the knuckles and nothing. Neither of them will budge at all, I'm about ready to cut the knuckles off.

Guy says he had to hammer on it to get it to start turning in combination with PB blaster and some hammer/chisel work.
