Wow, that is still alot - how much are the air filters running you? I found an online place (one of those Toyota online places recommended here) that was selling the oil filters for $3 and change). How much does the oil itself cost you?

Ah, if you throw an air filter in there also, that could be part of it. I think OEM air filters are like $20. Still a lot of money. I buy those Mobil 1 5+ jugs (they're like 5.2 quarts) and they seem to be the perfect amount of oil for our trucks. I can usually find them for between $20 and $25 either at Autozone or Advanced Auto. I've been using OEM filters, I bought them in bulk so I paid about $4/filter. I'm fortunate in that I don't live in a dusty area so I only change my air filter once a year (I still check it at every oil change but it looks brand new for about 6 months before it starts discoloring).

Those Mobil 1 jugs are 5.2 qts? IIRC, it states 5 qts - that's why I get an extra qt and use half of it and save the other half for the next change... I run a K&N filter and don't over oil it...so haven't brought a filter in a while...

There's a jug that is advertised as a 5+ jug.
    http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...motor-oil-5-plus-quarts-jug-120764/10069908-P

    I googled it and it's a 5.1 quart jug.

I had a TRD filter but the first time I had to clean it I got pissed literally watching it dry so I bought a normal filter and sold the TRD one. I just swap out OEM paper filters now.

    The Air Filter $ 13.00
    Oil Filter $4.00
    6quart Synthetic $ 48 ( I like to extra quart just in case I'm running low )
    Tax 9.24%

So it sum up around some what to that amount. I will look into what you mentions. Thank you for that

leelte secret, last oil change I got the CenTech WallyMart synthetic, like $19 per large container, add a Toyota filter for about $5.50, done...

The only drawback with the WallyMart stuff is it is only 5 quarts, not the 5.1+ that is needed for an absolutely full line marker, I by an extra quart, and then add 1/4 to 1/3 each oil change, so still it is only like $27, and 30 minutes time, most of it spent taking the skid plate off/back on to get to the filter properly...

Gotcha. I will look at the jug the next time I buy one - usually get it from walmart because ends up being around $20-$24 there. Will have to adjust how much from the extra qt I put in to make sure I don't overfill...

I also hate watching those things dry - I usually just put it in the sun and go on and do other stuff...If I need to go anywhere, I just use my wife's vehicle.

The 4 cyls only take 5.1 qts? Did not know that... Sucks for you that you have to take the skid plate off!

I think Walmart carries Mobil 1 but there's not one near me so I just go to Advanced or Autozone. I usually stop in and see if it's on sale rather than waiting until I need to do an oil change. If the price drops, I pick up 3 - 4 jugs at a time. I can usually find it between $20 - $25 when they go on sale. Normally, they're like $32 I think.

I know, I'm just impatient. I got pissed watching my filter dry and staring at my truck hood open, unable to go anywhere

You have a 6 cyl, right? 5w30 is what is calls for... Walmart does carry it, and its usually no more than $24 or so...and you will need to get an extra qt to make sure you have correct amount...

Also, if you have SAMS, BJ's, or some other wholesaler around, they sometimes have sales... When we were stationed up in MD, there was a BJ's that would put it on sale for a while - it would come in 6 qt packs (individual bottles)...IIRC, I got it there for around $25 for all 6 qts.

We do have a Sam's in town as well, I will be on the look out for some at walmart and Sam's. I need to purchase an oil filter wrench, some tubing to drain oil filter bottom out and what else? I've got ratchets and sockets, do I need a torque wrench?

I use these to remove the filter:
You don't need tubing for the oil filter. You'll find that a 20 oz. plastic bottle from your favorite fizzy drink will prop up under the drain plug quite nicely. I think it props up on the alternator or belt assembly, just don't forget about it.

You'll need a drain pan and also don't forget that the drain plug has a gasket on it that you should replace (I've reused them in the past, just make sure they don't leak if you reuse them).

If you have a tendancy to over-tighten things, get a torque wrench so you don't strip the case or the drain plug. If you're careful, you can tighten the drain plug by hand, I usually just snug it up and give it about 1/4 turn being very careful not to put too much pressure on it.

While you're under the truck, grease your fittings if you have any. I know I have a few on mine, not sure how many are on other cab configurations though.
