Rear End Sits Lower than Front

I recently bought a 2009 double cab tacoma with TRD sport package. Previous owner put a 3" body lift on it. The rear end sits noticably lower than the front. What could be causing this? I noticed that the rear leaf springs seem to have a negative arch to them..in other words they arch downward, iss this normal?. What are my options? I wouldn't be opposed to some beefed up leaf springs if this would do the trick because I would like to go load up with firewood every once in a while, but not sure if installing them would create other required modifications. Thanks.

 

I would look into a set of the TSB rear springs from Toyota. I would suspect that your truck is to the point that they would no longer be covered under warranty. Below is a link to the TSB thread and the bulletin regarding rear springs.

Measure from center hub to frnder front & rear.
Do your leafs smile or frown? Smile is normal, frown is shot.
Add A Leaf (AAL) might be your solution.

 

look at wheelers.com for a new leaf pack.. get a AAL 2ich aggressive leaf.. ( skyjacker $60)..or refurbish a leaf pack ( make one) there is a thread for that

 

I don't think there's any way at all it would still be covered, not for an 09.

you guys are quick to respond! I should have joined long ago. I was looking into the AAL and I will probably take your recommendation Jeff. Would adding a leaf require any other modifications?

I also have to replace the tow connector...what a crappy place to have it. Second time out on the trails getting some firewood and I slammed it into a rock while crossing a creek. Thinking about drilling a hole in the bumper next to the license plate to mount it. Found a good thread for that here too...

 

yea guy used 2 1/8 " hole into bumper the other way it to just bend the bracket up so its out of way until u drill hole.. the AAL is what I went w/.. but for $60 if it doesn't fit it.. can always buy another one until height is want u want... ( thus making a leaf spring set) but AAL usually is only a Band-Aid until u can get new leaf pack.. but so far its working for me without an issue

So wheelers.com is a building material website...if the AAL is just band-aid, should I go with a whole new leaf spring assembly? I would like to increase my hauling capacity too.

It depends on the current condition of your leafs on whether an AAL or new pack would be best.
Ironman makes a 2" leaf pack I believe but don't know the capacity of it.
I put over 3,000 lbs in the back of my truck with my Dakar leaf pack & was still 1.5" off the bump stops.

 

forgive me if I am stupid, just dont have a lot of knowledge on this stuff. I will go out and measure from my wheel center to the fender on both the front and rear. Say for example the rear sits 1" lower and I want a 1" rake, I should buy a rear leaf pack with 2" of lift, right...even though my current leaf packs are frowning? What is a typical rake? Are there any other modifications that need to be performed if I get a thicker leaf pack like this?

 

If you're planning on keeping the hockey puck lift you'll want a stock size leaf with more load capacity & that should put you back to stock rake (around 1.5"). A 2" lift pack will put you way high in the rear (2" over stock) if you don't do anything up front.
