Lately, moron drivers (here in Dallas) have really been annoying me and pushing me to the edge! There is hardly a day that I can't travel on freeways here, in which I don't get cut-off, tail-gated, or nearly side-swiped by other drivers. I've also been keeping a mental count of how many times I would actually use the train horn; comes out to at least 1 time whenever I'm on the freeway.

So, I've been doing some research on getting a train horn kit (HornBlasters Conductor's Special 228VX Train Horn Kit: http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-228vx-train-horn-kit).

Question: Where would you guys recommend installing the air tank?

BTW, I've seen plenty of those train horn youtube videos, and I'm definitely not into that. I'd only use it sparingly!:)

why not try to make your own setup? thats seems steep for a compressor, tank, and some fittings/hoses/horns.

im sure if you look around those parts separately could be found for a good bit less than 500 bones.

I absolutely agree, however, I'm not that mechanically inclined haha.. I thought it might save me the headache of piecing together a kit, etc.

That's pretty sweet. I wonder if that compressor will inflate tires too.

I'm pretty sure it will. I'm thinking about connecting my ride rite air bags to the compressor as well :)

In some area's train horns are illegal due to how loud they are. I'd suggest checking with your local PD first to make sure its ok to have one. I know in Cali and FL its illegal to have a train horn and it gets you an excessive noise ticket.

I would recomend a 100% cycle duty. This pump is only rated at 30%. The 100% cycle duty would allow for airing tires up and an running an impact wrench.

Lot's of things are illegal and we still do it...tint for example in many states. I suggest he just not toot his horn with the police around. I wish I had a train horn for some of the people that drive around my area. I get it though, just looking out for a fellow member to make sure they don't get in trouble, but asking the police if it's OK to have a loud horn seems a bit excessive to me.

True. Still would rather give the OP a heads up that he might get a ticket than leave him hanging. And you don't always notice cops around you.

Tint won't get an unknown reaction out of a driver, a train horn will. I bet officers would hop on that ticket in a heart beat.

with a overly excessive high decibel horn.

yer likely to be blamed for 'causing the accident...
if you blow that and scare drivers that were attempting correction.

If you launch that at a pissed off driver...
yer asking for it. Sometimes people get shot.

    just sayin'

    I rarely use my horn...
I think it better to pay attention to the road, driving...
and watching out for those morons I have to share that road with.

    Avoidance is a better plan...
defensive driving is always smarter then hurried maneuvers.

Thanks for the heads-up, but after considering getting train horns for a while, I'm more committed than ever haha...

Again, I only plan on using it (1-3 sec blast) to get my point across (i.e. thanks for cutting me off and SLOWING down a**hole).

Well put. Some day some idiot is going to scare someone with a train horn and cause an accident. IMHO they are stupid. Is even the slightest possibility of an involuntary manslaughter charge worth being able to out douchebag the douchebag that cut you off?

The same can apply to those "idiots" making illegal lane changes, tail-gating, decelerating in front of you (after having cut you off), or nearly side swiping you.

I'm NO idiot, nor am I stupid; I can assure you that based on my profession (i.e. Surgeon).

Furthermore, IF for any inadvertent reason I was to cause an accident, I would immediately pull over and assist that person and accept full responsibility.

Anyways, I digress; back to my original question on where to mount the air tank!

Just because they are being idiots doesnt mean you have to. Pulling over to help is inconsequential. Its ok for me to cause an accident just because I'm willing to pull over and help when it happens? That's stupid. Do what you will. I'm just pointing out how potentially dangerous and illegal it is. Being a Surgeon, You have even more to lose if you cause an accident and go to jail.
