You could look at some OBA posts, basically the same thing that you are trying to achieve. I put my tank on my hitch between the bumper and spare tire

I've been wanting a train horn for a while now.. I think you should do it.. I know people are trying to "warn" you about cops and other people getting pissed etc ( I'd rather take my chances and get somebody's attention than end up in a bad accident). Sometimes you need something like a train horn.. The other day I was run completely off the dam road and I was laying on my stock horn.. I was doing about 60 mph jumping crap on the shoulder (the idiot was in a crew cab duelly "with his windows down" pulling a loaded trailer and takes his sweet time getting back in his lane), luckily there wasn't anything there to hit, not to mention I had a Big Rig right behind me and I was boxed off the road, so I couldn't stop quickly. Could've been a serious accident.. Always something like that, train horn is on my mod list.

I apoligize, my tool box is a mess, but the compressor fits sideways just perfectly. I simply drilled 2 holes and put 2 bolts. thats like 2.5 gallons i think.

Using a zip tie or 2 i just ties the horns to something unimportant down there behind the grill.

the air line runs out the back of the toolbox through another drilled hole and under the truck ziptied to the frame. its pretty easy setup. Theres plenty of room in the wheel well to run the airline without the tire hitting it. It then runs through the engine bay and to the horn. Kept away from anything hot.

My switches go through that little hole on the drivers side. i have a switch to turn on the compressor and to honk the horn. i wouldnt reccomend leaving the compressor on because theres a valve that releases the air when it reaches a certian PSI. it usually takes about 30 sec to prime up and youll have a good 3sec blast. i have a small leak somewhere that will drain the compressor in about 15min, which is fine because i dont like leaving compressed air in my toolbox. I strongly reccomend upgrading the air line if you get one. the crap that hornblasters sends is complete garbage.

I use it every so often.... going through tunnels and the occasional hot chicks walking on the beaches, but no old people or children. It will get your attention around town, but to scare someone on the interstate youd have to be next to them with there windows down, but they will DEFINATLY HEAR YOU. Ive actually been driving next to a train going 45 and honked it at him and he honked back. My buddy never walks in front of my vehicle because he hates it.

Ive never had any probs with cops because im pretty responsible with it and it takes time to prime up.

Awesome! Nice setup! That's the location I was originally thinking about, but wasn't sure if it would fit. Now I know :)

I couldn't agree with you more! I've literally been keeping count on how many times I get cut-off etc. and how useful a train horn would be! Sure beats road raging :)

Nice setup! Considering I don't have a tool box in my bed, I'd probably want to mount the compressor somewhere else. Leaning towards the space between the spare tire and tow hitch. Or even considering removing the spare (all together) and mounting it there. I'm running BFG mudders, and getting a flat is the last thing on my mind :)

appreciate it.the small tank is no more that 1.5' x .5' there's prolly a few places you could hide it. but if you got the big tank it'd prolly be way better to put it under the truck.

If you put it in the location i did, be sure to leave room to get that rod in to lower the spare tire

subed.. will plan to install trucker horn under hood.. With the dumbasses in NY state.. quite a few are like doc said.. are morons needs attendtion with the quick blast of horn. with plenty of deer near the road.. I rather chase them off before getting near me.
Might look into electron horn or stick with the air compressor type.

^ This. I try to not get boxed in, allow others to get in front of me if they really feel they need that spot and keep a cool head. More times then I can count the driver that just had to be in front and drive like maniac is stopped at the same light I am only to do it all over again for us to meet at the next one.

I'm thinking about completely removing the spare tire and mounting the compressor there; I'm running BFG Mudders and (unless I'm doing some extreme offroading) don't think I'll be getting a flat.

Try this one simply because of the killer price and the size is smaller. but this one has a higher decibel rating...and possibly might be more compact.

I thought a little bit about this and what I say will probably make no difference. I have worked as a Professional Firefighter for the last 20 years on the busiest Truck Co. in the state. I have seen more people killed and picked up more body parts than I care to remember. I still have nightmares from the screams of parents that lost their child because of aggressive or unsafe driving (which.... believe it or not... you will be contributing too). Do you know how much a 2 yr old child's head weighs? I do... after I had to un-wedge it from underneath the fender well of a semi truck after 2 fucking idiots racing on the freeway clipped the car he was riding in. The car was cut in half when a semi ran over it.

People are stupid and you can not control what someone else does. Aggressive drivers are going to do what they are going to do no matter what. No need in adding to the problem other than to make "yourself" feel better.

I realize that your mind is made up but I can promise you that you will cause more harm than good. If people freak out at the sound of a Firetruck's horn (and believe me... I see it all the time) what do you think they will do when you blow your "train" horn.

I'm off my soapbox and you can leave me negative rep if you want. Just think about what you are about to do. Are you helping or making the problem worse?

    Enjoy your install.
