What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I had them done here in Denver for 265you for the pair. Great place called CVJ tell them Kevin sent you. I'm bringing some flyers and cards to the Moab deal at the end of the month

 

To be honest I never bothered looking into fixing my speedo. And now that you posted it I think im going to have to. I have ABS so ill look into wiring it after my ABS

 

880s will not get you 3" of lift. 882's will. A tube bumper (depending on what you get) will not be a lot more weight than the factory bumper. A winch and skidplates on the other hand will add a lot of weight up front. So if you're only planning on a tube bumper it won't change lift height that much from the stock one.

883's will be stiffer than the 882s but with a little less lift so you might not put as much strain on CV boots with the 883s.

I ran my truck with 882 and the stock bumper for months and I thought the ride was great. Firm but definitely not harsh, and it was killer in the dirt.

Where are you getting this information? I have never heard any such thing. 882's are not too tall for the Nitrochargers especially when you add the weight of a bumper/winch which gets you to about the same point as the 883s as far as height, but with a softer ride. My opinion is that if ARB/OME is trying to steer people away from the 882's its in an effort to eliminate redunancy in their product. If the 883 and 882s are so similar it would much easier to just keep one product vs having two. But I think the height thing is BS.

 

Bracket should work fine. Personally I would go a bit bigger than 1" tube for the crossmember. Doubling it up like you said would take care of that, but why spend the effort to double it up when you could just use something a bit bigger to start?

 

Running 33s w/ 4.56 on a manual transmission. Stepped up from 4.10. Will be doing some testing later today but driving across town, speedo says 40mph, nav unit says 38mph.

When I had the 4.10s, speedo would read 40 and the nav unit would bounce between 41 and 42.

Well mainly because I have 2 20' sticks of 1" already laying at my house. If I decide that it won't look good or it doesn't feel strong enough then I could use the bender at work and make it out of 1-3/4" heavy wall round tubing, but its more of a hassle to go that route.

 

All of this. I ran 882s with stock bumper for awhile and everything was fine. CVs had some angle but nothing bad, to be expected when lifting a vehicle without dropping the front diff.

When I added an Elite bumper to the front, I added 10mm top plate spacers to account for the new sag. That's when the spindle started hitting the coil. Fixed it with aftermarket uniball UCAs. When I add the winch and skids probably going to replace the 10mm top plate spacer and add the Toytec 1/2" one then call it good.

Somewhere in there, I have to start weighing down the bed to keep it level.

 

For the gasket sealer on the deckplate mod, sensor-safe sealant is recommended because the fumes when curing can interfere with the MAF sensor and cause rough running. However, if you leave the AF box and hood open and let the sealant fully cure before running the truck, you should be fine.

 

Read it on a bunch of sites and places when i was looking closer at OME stuff about 6 months ago as Ben as looking at picking a new front coil.

Many sources said the 882 is no longer recommended as the coil is so tall it prepossesses so much that it pulled the shocks basically to the max. Maybe they changed the shocks now but either way everyone was saying that the 883 coils where the better option to go. they were the same free standing height at the 881s but had a much higher coil rate to take the weight. Add the 10mm trim pack and you'd get 3'' no problem as well.

Just what i found when doing research on all the coils. I do also know that lots of people still have run 882s with no problems. And some have had problems. Either way, i am pretty sure that OME doesn't recommend the 882 anymore now that the 883 is available.

 

I found more then one case where people had issues with 882s and several where they said they called OME and they said they didn't recommend em..but who knows..

Either are fine i think.
