$600+ to install a lift?!?!

a local garage quoted me that to install my OME shocks, springs and AAL... said it would be about 10 hrs at $60/hr for labor.

does that seem right?

even if its a steal i can't afford it... was really hoping to get my lift installed before my camping trip over fathers day with the help of some fellow TW'ers but doesn't look like anyone was available before then so i chanced a shop.

looks like i'll be waiting for a east coast mod day after fathers day .

thats about 6 hours work. they are tryin to ass rape you hard, tell them to skeet your load and go find a another shop

 

i've gotten several offers to help from people that are either too far away to do it or don't have the same days off as me... nothing sadder than a perfectly good lift gettin dusty in the corner

 

I WAS JUST AT 4wheel parts... and they want 500 in labor + the cost mount balance and LINEment wheels.. what a JOKE!!!!!!
plus on the 6 inch pro comp they told me it was going to take a min 2 days to do!!

central 4wheel wanted about 400 + the cost for the mount and balance and they said at most day and half

 

anyone available in the baltimore area to come to my house during the evening this week to show me how to do one side and then I can do the other on my own???

 

If you take your stock assymbly out, then you can take the stock setup and the new to a shop and have them assymble it. Should only take them an hour. Then you just take it home and bolt it on. That would take care of the front. Its easy to take out, and then bolt back on.

 

i would need a pretty detailed write up for something like that... i'm all for diving in and figuring it out but last thing i need is for my truck to be undrivable for this weekend because i took it all aprat and can't figure out what i did.

 

i live around B-more. I didnt actually do the lift but my friend did, and he does work out his garage. So far he has installed my toytec 884 lift springs, my AAL, and then took the 884 coils out and installed my toytec coilovers. Trying giving him a call at 443-869-0614 ask for albert or rick and tell him Ha refered you.

 

dud if you want to take the project on i would be happy to try and help out. Not much knowledge on the install but I would help where I could

 

good to know... do you have tools? i am lacking there as well.

 

Not a spring compressor, but that part I would let the shop do for cheap. I am not sure what the rest of the tools would consist of actually haha

I had some prior experience, but not with the taco and I didn't have access to all my tools, so I started that thread and chronicled my install.

It's not that hard and the basic tools for your truck (same as mine): 14mm, 17mm and 19mm sockets and wrenches, a good torque wrench and a place to swap your springs for you. The number one tool is PB Blaster though. You can't live without that, start using it now as more time=better penetration (of the PB, you sickos).

If you get new top plates as Jhodge suggested (it's what I did), you can do the front end in about an hour by yourself.

 

dgerm are you home now or still at school?

i think i saw that your home is a lot closer to me than your school... too far to drive and do the mod in one evening? if you were able to drive to my place we wouldn't have to worry about finishing it all in one night.... especially if you had a couple hour drive ahead of you at night.

any ideas?
