Day 3 of a modified paleo diet the wife got from her doctor. I'm in for moral support and I could stand to lose a chunk of weight anyway. Not convinced it's a miracle diet but with the focus on avoiding processed foods and sugar, it has to be pretty good for you.

Lunch: Brisket, snap peas and carrots.

Dinner: half a roasted sweet potato and half an avocado (I ate the other half of the avocado too, not like it would keep).

    Anyone else tried paleo?

We don't do any named diet, but we eat very little processed stuff any more. I try to have fresh veggies and meats whenever possible.

That said, we have some addiction issues with pasta and italian sausage, so...its like a work in progress :)

I have managed to get the family on board with avoiding excess sodium and and much HFCS as is humanly possible. We basically gave up on sodas and drinks like that.

But, cheese is too much to give up. Like ever. And bacon.

Lets stop there. I'd give up blowjobs and beer before I gave up bacon and cheese.

Thankfully, I don't plan on giving any of those up any time soon, so...

I'm Paleo myself, but I eat bacon by the pig...

Cheese I can do without. I find myself bloated these days after eating it

I'm from Wisconsin. Asking me to go without cheese or beer? Might as well ask me to go without air, you'd have a better chance of success.

I have been off most dairy for about 6 months. Ice cream absolutely wrecks my stomach these days, so I assume I'm becoming somewhat lactose intolerant as I head into my 30s. I hope this paleo diet does some good for me and the wife. I've honestly eaten more veggies in the last 3 days than i had in the last month. Good to hear it's been so successful for you!

Cannot do without cheese, pasta, & bacon. LOL three of the supposedly worst things to consume. Oh well.

Trying out a new dessert tonight...not sure about it, but we shall see. Recipie/pics will be posted afterwards.

Well....no, not really. Not bad per se.

But, what it IS, is, a carbohydrate. Otherwise known as a complex sugar that can muck up your blood sugar, cause your pancreas to send out wonky amounts of insulin, and also has the lovely side effect of being very, VERY easily turned into stored energy for use by the body later.

    Meaning, of course...FAT.

I'm not a nutritionist or dietician or even a fitness nut. I just know biology and chemistry and like to cook. SO, that's as in-depth as I'll go. There are others here that can give you more detailed info.

But, in short: No, it isn't BAD for you. Just, in high amounts, with not enough exercise, it turns into copious amount of Jabba-YOU rather quickly, and is hard to work off.

It depends on what kind of pasta though too. Whole wheat or not... also my metabolism burns 600 miles an hour. 3000+ calories a day are needed for me to gain weight.

    P.S. I am a fitness nut.

Glad to hear that you are a fitness nut. I am training for a pt test in 3 weeks. Pushups, situps, 1.5 mile run. I already lost 12 lb on 3 weeks by merely watching what I eat. I am trying to stay under 1800 calories a day with deductions for excercising. Usually I just watch what I eat but now I downloaded my fitness pal I am recording everything..... It is fun but I cant wait until I am done...

Are you only required to do push ups, sit ups, and a run? I'm just finishing a hard core cut. My schools doing biggest loser. So far I'm in the lead with 30 hours left till the final weigh in.
I do core lifts, body weight stuff and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I used to run too but I hate running with a passion.

Diet it so key. It's more important to eat right then to exercise regularly.

Yes it is a minimum of 34 pushups,41 situps in a minute and 1.5 mile run in 11:34 which is a pretty good pace. I have been doing pushups,sit-ups,flutter kicks, crunches, supe pine bicycles and run basically. I will occasionally hit up weights for upper body.

So many people don't "get" this part. It's really sad.

And it isn't tough to illustrate. Here's the one I use when talking to someone that doesn't get it:

Your car/truck/weevee is a chemical engine device. It takes in fuel (gasoline), changes the state of that fuel from liquid to gas (via fire) and uses the resulting release of energy to turn a driveshaft, which turns the wheels. Remember that whole 'first law of themodynamics' from high school physics... energy is never created or destroyed, it just simply changed from one form to another.

Now, when your car is low on gas, we add more fuel to it. We have a handy dandy gauge on the dash that tells us how much fuel we have left, and we can plan accordingly. Most cars also have computers and shit in them now that can tell us more specifically how many miles we have left, the rate of conversion (MPG), etc. Handy. But the general idea is pretty much unchanged since the late 19th century.

    Here's where it gets fun.

Your BODY is a chemical engine too.

You take in fuel. Your stomach performs as the engine, changing the form of the fuel from one type (say, a steak, or cheese, or fruit, or whatever, it doesn't matter) to another, and using the resulting energy to do stuff. Instead of turning a driveshaft, your body is kinda making a baking soda volcano, only powering your organs and muscles and brain to live your life.

Your 'gas gauge' is your hunger! When your body is running low on fuel, it sends a signal to the brain, "Hey, tell this idiot we need more fuel!".

NOW, imagine you went to the gas station EVERY DAY, and regardless of how much gas you actually used, you bought 10 gallons. No matter what, you picked up 10 gallons. It wouldn't take long, and you'd need someplace else besides the factory gas tank to haul it around.

Plus, now that you're carrying more physical weight, the engine has to work HARDER to haul you and that unburnt fuel around, taking more fuel to do the same work you performed yesterday, with more wear and tear on your vehicle to boot.

Now, keep doing this. Over and over and over. In time, you'd barely be able to pull the trailer with the giant tank strapped to it for all the fuel you're dragging around. It would take you a LOT longer to accomplish your daily tasks. And, even completely non-related shit is WAY tougher than it has to be, cause now you have to park not only your truck, but a 27 foot trailer with a couple TONS of fuel in a tank on it. Plus, there are roads you can't drive on how (too heavy!) and places you can't go (Tank too tall!). And you're still spending WAY more $ than you have to every single day, even though you aren't accomplishing any more...you're doing, at best, what you were before, and at worse you're doing way less AND destroying your truck in the process.

    ...

Your body is the truck, here. And the 'extra' gas, the fuel you don't burn that day? That's fat. FAT is nothing more than your body storing unused energy for future need. A trailer. A portable silo, if you will. So that way, if you call upon your body to do some work and it has no fuel available, it'll burn the fat and allow you to...whatever, run away from the hungry wildabeest that just spoiled your hunt and sent you back to the cave hungry, as it were.

    Now, here's another important part:

Are you putting premium in your truck (eating well) or, to save a couple pennies, are you going to that shithole gas station that waters its gas down to make more money and has shitty pumps that don't work right and lines that are filthy? If you're eating McDildoes or BoogerFling, guess what you're putting in your engine?

Different things burn differently in our engines, just like gas won't burn in our engines like diesel or peanut oil will in one of those engines. Same thing: Carbs digest differently than proteins, which are different from fibrous stuff, which is different from... AND, to add to the fun, a lot of the 'engineered' food made in labs nowadays fucks with your gas gauge! It tells you that you're almost out of fuel and to keep consuming, even though you're full up. Its so the gas stations make more money, see!

Well, you get the idea. It gets more complicated from here, if you feel like looking into it. But this analogy is one that most everyone can follow along with and have have that light-bulb "A-HA!" moment for the first time, where they really 'get it'.

    2. 16oz bags frozen mixed berries
    1 white cake mix
    12 oz sprite

    Berry Cobbler....!

Dump frozen berries into a 9x13 cake pan. Evenly pour cake mix over the berries. Pour sprite on top of the cake mix (DO NOT MIX). Cover with aluminum foil & bake 20mins@ 350*. Remove foil & bake 40mins more still at 350*.

Only thing I would have done differently, would be to break up any large clumps of cake mix on the very top surface... They didn't really brown very well it seemed like, but still pretty tasty.
