Nice your going the same route as I am but I am going (ballistic fab 4 link kit) double triangulated linked rear 14b w/ coilovers and three link front d60 w/ coilovers, 5.38, Atlas 4spd tcase, 42" MTRs.

Yeah a lot of cutting and hacking and reforming of the body panels and some frame modification. It is gonna be a big expensive project it gonna be sweet when I am done :)

I'm waiting for a SAS kit to come out for the 4th gens.

Not quite likely, BUT I've been in the SAS'd 4th gen mood and was seriously considering gathering parts. My only limitation is my lack of a garage that will fit my truck and a welder at this point.

    Some day :(

I don't trust kits, its always better to gather your own parts. loot at demello fab and check out their 2nd gen tacoma sas, they done a few of those, can give you a few ideas.

haha mine plans started out like that, but after wheeling and owning the truck for 5 years, i learn to plan more realistically lol or more financially responsible i should say.

For me that is financially responsible and feasible lol it is just what I want so I go for it lol

And I agree fully. Kits are ok and do the trick but it is severely better to research and put your own together. I am ordering the ballistic kit for the 14b cause it comes with a truss, diff cover, and pinion guard plus ballistic joints which is what I will be running.

I just don't know where to start. It's kinda daunting! Lots of components and variables. Wish there was a walk through thread about it

I'm gonna SAS this some day. For now my plans are to get OME 886 and Superflex. Get fully armored, then give this to my fiancée when we get married so she can have the coolest mommy truck ever and I can buy an FJ with a manual. Because fuck automatic

Go hang out on pirate for a week or two and read through a bunch of the build threads. A SAS done right can be pretty damned daunting especially when you get into links cause angles and everything determine how your rig is gonna drive. (Btw if you do coilovers you will have to go linked) You will need to know the following:

Caster and toe: what they are and what they do. Advantages of positive and negative caster.

Under and oversteer: everything with you suspension play into these two things. Your link angle make up a large amount of it.

Spring rates: how to calculate dual ad triple spring rates, as well, valving for the shock.

    Pinion angles

Link lengths the top is shorter than the bottom.

Joint separation on both frame side and axle side.

Panhard length and geometry: pretty much this controls your body rol and your instant gravity center.

Clearancing everything to fit: body work, frame, and mechanical clearance.

It is an art form all in itself. Go read the coilover bible as well the Dana bible and 14b bible on pirate. Read through mossyrunners, erikb, ad booger welds build threads. Read "brocoma.... Getting un-broed" thread (lots and lots of CO and link info in tere), as well look at JLee "BAMF 3link" build.

    Your brain will burn!!!! Lol

Ha ha I prefer my auto to a manual any day for off roading :) less to worry about and plus I don't have to gear down as much :)

I liked the auto better until I regeared the transfer case behind my manual.

Have I mentioned how much I like 4.7 gears? :D
