haha I know both of those guys...they are customtacos members. At this point in time though I cant remember there user names, but when I come across them again I will let you know. The top vid is a 4x4 3rz and the bottom vid is a 2wd 2rz and as you can tell they are both turboed...

 

The bottom one is only running 6 lbs too ...appreciate that, I'm in the process of turbo'ing my truck as soon as I find a turbo manifold that fits a T3.

 

For your 3rz?

 

yeah boy! I only plan on running ~5 lbs of boost until i can get bigger injectors and an URD MAF calibrator. what i really wanted to know is what you do with the ECU when you start running more boost.

 

The best and most reliable turbo manifold that I have heard of for the 2/3rz is made by steedspeed. Its a cnc machined manifold that fits a t3 turbo. It doesnt support as much power as a tubular manifold by design but it wont crack and will last a long time. I think LCE is a vendor for steedspeed. The easiest thing to do is run a piggyback ecu on top of your factory ecu. The only other choice is to run a standalone system. Piggybacks are annoying to tune but cheaper. Standalones are all you will ever need but you lose some of your factory luxuries.

 

yeah...the ECU is pretty much buried in the passenger side dash haha. and that's what im looking for, more reliability over straight horsepower. I'm shooting for ~225whp, 250 max or however much it takes to tip the 1/4 mile scale at low 14's, high 13's at bristol, but that's more long term. I'd rather keep the longevity of the truck though. I think I could run low to mid 14's at bristol (elevation is around 2000-2500 ft) with around 10 lbs of boost and a good tune, but like I said that's prolly gonna be a few months or a year down the road.

 

For that range hp its not even worth it to get a standalone. I dont know much about piggybacks. With a really good tune, a good intercooler, possible a water/meth injection system, you could make 250 hp with around 7psi on the 3rz.

 

That would be pretty impressive for 7 lbs. I saw a kit KOracing has that I sold for profit because some guy offered me like 500 more dollars than what I paid for it haha. their website shows a 2rz tacoma running the kit between 4.5-5 lbs of boost with a 3.6 lb wastegate spring and made 177whp/187wtq...I thought that was pretty solid for a 2rz

 

ya but that was with no intercooler, and no tune, plus the 3rz is gonna make more hp and especially more torque than the 2rz.

 

I know dude...that's what has me kinda excited about all this haha. 200whp is easily an achieveable goal
