Agreed. KBB price is $12,413. and NADA is $13,500. It looks exceptionally well kept though.

I had a '02 that was identical to the one you're look at except for color. I gave it to one of my kids last winter with 225,000 on the odometer. It's a great truck. The price you're being asked to pay is way too much however.

You could give him 12k if the dealership has already replaced the frame, in which case the truck would truly be like new and you could get another 10 years out of it. If not you'll have 4 years left on the frame warranty (I believe it's 15 years?) and if its a northern truck that's a little bit of a gamble.

I just pulled up Edmunds price for that truck too...$8212.

The average of all three prices is $11,135. Thats what I'll offer and see where he goes with it.

Check that frame and the spare tire carrier if it is from one of the listed states. The tire carrier has a current recall on it. Check the vin through the toyota owners page and car fax to get a better idea of the history. A turd is a turd whether it looks good or not do yourself a favor and double check.

for perspective, my 01 extra cab 4x4 trd with 114k miles cost me just I've 14..........6 years ago. price is high. however, with the 1St Gens becoming increasingly hard to find in such good condition, the price is being inflated. I wouldn't pay that much unless it had less than 100k miles. Plus the fact that it isn't even TRD, doesn't help their asking price either. just my.02 cents though.

IMO I don't think the TRD badge means much of anything on a Gen 1 with the huge selection of aftermarket parts to make up for the difference. Dunno.

I agree, but for sake of justifiable price increases, i mention it as a price multiplier.

My uncle is a dealer and would ask for 12-13k on the lot. For a personal sale I would pay no more than 11k but if you can get it for 10 even better. I bought my 2001 TRD DC SR5 with 140k miles for $7000 (3 months ago). And the guy was original owner and had all service records. He also kept it in very great condition.
Mine isn't 4wd. But to pay double what I paid for a 1 year newer, 4wd model, with 20k miles less than mine is a bit much. I would say 11 is the highest you should pay.

I know how it feels to see the truck you've always wanted, your prob feeling like you gotta have it. Take a step back and know that if this guy can't come down then there are more out there. You can find them on Craigslist in great condition with low miles for under 12k. But I'm not saying they are a "dime a dozen" because they r not, especially first generation models in good condition.

    My .02

    GOODLUCK!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, lots of good advice here. I emailed the owner and asked if he would come down to a book value average and he said no.

Oh well, lots more out there.

Yeah, too much, especially for a non-TRD, which could adda grand mainly for the e-locker, because he HD shocks would have needed replacement long ago.

And, is it SR5 trim, cruise control, electric mirrors, etc.? Can't tell.

Consider also that all the springs will be very tired and can run you easily $500-$1000 to replace.

Was the T-belt and water pump replaced at 90k miles? Another ~$500. It will be due again at 180k

What state has is lived in (rust issues)?

Consider that when I bought my 2001 in 2009, it had 100k miles, rust-free Cali truck, SR5 TRD (Xcab, not Dcab), extremely clean, one owner, dealer records, T belt done, included Snugtop, for $12.5k.

I still had to replace all shocks and springs, and the tires, which were 3/4 worn BFGs.

Did you see the seller wouldn't budge?

The truck is truly mint or the seller is smoking that shit.

    Seller is smoking shit.
