Clutch Issue?

We looked up my history on the truck... did the master cylinder 3 years ago.

Not gonna touch it for now because that's a $125 part with my friend's discount.

 

Good for you man. Wish I could get a discount Prices sound fine to me. Think about doing that rear main also, while it is easy to get to.

 

Yeah well I'm hoping it's just the slave cylinder that we replace in his driveway Saturday morning.

If not, I have to start doing yoga now...so I can grab my ankles and grit my teeth for that $1000 hit.

 

I know exactly how you feel and more....with the gearbox rebuild, my total was $2500. Had to replace all the bearings and two shafts. Those shafts are not cheap.

 

The discounted parts WEAR OUT FAST- 3 years is not unusual.
REBUILD KIT $300???????

That was just a quick search--I am sure there are more.

 

The master is OEM

And I think the $325 kit is all brand new OEM parts to replace the clutch (mechanical parts - not the cylinders). Not just a rebuild kit. Although I admit, I really don't have a clue wtf I'm talking about right now

There seems to be a disconnect in communication here.

I'm hoping/praying that it's just a bad slave cylinder. For that I'm replacing it brand new with an OEM slave cylinder. That cost me $55. Like I said earlier for $55 if it fixes my problem and gets me another 166,000 miles, I'll take it.

We replaced the master cylinder with OEM 3 years ago. I am not going to mess with that for now because that's $125.

If it turns out that it is not a hydraulic issue (master or slave cylinders) and it is indeed a mechanical issue, then I would need to replace the clutch, eg the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, etc...

 

Replaced the slave cylinder (which was original with 166,000 miles on it)

At first everything felt great but after about 7 or so pushes/releases of the clutch pedal the same symptoms arose.

Going to try and replace the master cylinder with OEM to see if that fixes it. My friend says that ideally a bench bleed is what you need to do, but just bleeding it normally works fine too... just takes longer. He doesn't have a bench bleeder and I don't think we'll be able to use the shop to do this. Do you guys concur with that?

If not I'm gonna just have to bend over and have my friend's shop drop the transmission and diagnose the clutch mechanics.

If the clutch needs replacing I was going to just replace the whole thing with OEM parts (since I got 15 years and 166,000 miles out of it). The kit costs $325. Are there any recommendations for other clutch kits for around the same price that you would say, "dude, if you're spending $325 you should definitely get the ------ kit"

I don't race this thing, I don't jump it, etc... it's a DD that sees a pretty decent amount of 4wheeling during spring/summer.

can't imagine the clutch would be causing it. Only would need to replace it if its slipping..that said..166k on it..might not be so bad to do anyways. Mine is slipping in 1st gear now.

Hope the master cylinder fixes it man. Bleed the system good!

My friend said a stuck bushing, or broken fork could be a culprit. But it honestly feels hydraulic to me. The fact that it acted normal after replacing the slave and bleeind the system well, but then got all FUBAR'D again after I worked the pedal a few times makes me believe it's hydraulic.
