I have a 2003 3.4L 5speed 4x4 that misses around 55mph going up a hill. Mechanic has replaced spark plugs, fuel filter and new fuel pump. Any body have any more suggestions. This happens around 2500 rpms and in 4th gear.

    Too few to list.
No check engine light? I would think if it was missing there would be a code.

Does it miss in 4th gear or does the clutch start to slip? I would also see if any pending codes. Cleaning mass air flow sensor and throttle body may help.

Same basic shit everybody else had 5 years ago.
I had a bad issue with mine missing and cutting out. I replaced the MAF numerous times and cleaned the TB numerous times. Finally I started researching and found there were some issues with the design of the 03-04 TB's. I found the NHTSB (sp) website and found quite a few official complaints there for the same thing. Finally I took it to Iron Pig in Fredericksburg, VA to help figure it out. Of course it wouldn't do it for them and when I went to pick it up it started on the way home real bad. I went back and they grabbed the computer and plugged it in and although it was missing real bad nothing registered on the computer except rpm change. To shorten the story we replaced the TB.......around a cool K in cost and they blocked the coolant line into TB. Also noticed it was a different mod than the orig. The rumor is Toyota knows all about it, hence the improved current part, but have not had enough official complaints to do a recall. My "buddy" at the dealership told me to hang on to my receipt and old TB in the event there is ever a recall.

I hope yours is something more simple than this nightmare was.

I had the same problem the tps is bad the only downside is you can't get a tps for the 03 Tacoma 4x4 5 speed you need a new Throttlebody there's a class-action suit open against Toyota for that part the Toyota dealership took care of mine for free you got a raise some hell though if not a new one from Toyota is $1400
