I see that a lot lately and idk why they do it but insurance companies will total a vehicle based on wholesale and low book. Also they do it as a percentage of that which can be anywhere from 60 to 80 %. Insurance companies also try and price a vehicles worth through JD power and assoc even though the rest of the world uses NADA. fucking retard.

 

There can be a lot more going on besides the visible affected parts (and labor) here. The hood may have pushed over and screwed up the top of the driver side fender. The bumper is pushed in pretty far; AC lines/system could be damaged, radiator could be damaged, washer reservoir could be damaged, air box could be damaged, crush cans and frame, airbags,...if it is a high-mileage 01, the percentage could catch up to the FMV pretty quickly.
