18" Wheels on 1st Gen Tacoma

Hey Guys/Gals,

I am new to this forum and just recently acquired a 96 Tacoma. Now obviously the first thing we want to do with these machines is ditch the factory pizza cutters, elevate the SOB and slap on some meats! Now I know offsets and lift kits have been beaten to death but I just wanted some opinions on my new 18" wheels (18x9) with +20 offset and the likelihood of fitting 33x13.5's (Mickey Thompson ATZ) with a 3" lift. I am thinking a spacer will be needed to bring the wheels out and I am not so sure I wanna go that route. Thoughts...

 

I personally don't see you being able to fit 33"s with a +20 offset without some serious trimming. (Chopping is more like it) Most people I see on here run negative offsets or a low BS and some still need spacers for 33"s. Especially that wide.

 

What kind of offset you running? it its the factory toyota offset you should be fine. If you used the chevrolet offset it would work with at most a 12.50 tire. I got a buddy who has a 33/12.50/20's on his tacoma with just a leveling kit. just a word to the wise. i personally wouldn't run a 13.50. its just more trouble you have to deal with the scrubbing and everything. hope this helped in your decision making

 

No way a 12.5 will fit on stock offset. It'll rub the UCAs and frame while turning.

Also 13.5s you'll need at least 3.5" BS to be safe and get ready to cut a ton out if your fenders.

 

Thanks for the responses guys! I just had an opportunity to buy these tires for cheap so I thought if it could work it wouldn't be all that bad. Now if I were to add some 1.5" spidertrax spacers into the mix, that would recreate my offset to a -17.5 on these wheels. Still rubbing issues or would I sneak by?

 

These wheels have +20 offset. Any idea what offset your buddy is running on his 20s?

 

The guy he bought them from told me but I can't remember, I think it was a -12, cause it has a 4.5" backspacing. Ohh and BTW its not my buddy, its my brother, stupid computer. Anyway, if they have a +20 backspacing, you may want to invest in some wheel spacers.

It helped us decide what backspacing we had to have. Most chevys have the same backspacing, hub size, and lug pattern as a lot of the Toyota's. If that doesn't help, call around to local businesses and talk to their Tech guys.

 

Nice! Thanks for the info sir. I bought the tires and will be mounting them up when I get a few inches under her. I will be buying 1.5" spacers as well to make it work. I am a sucker for doing what some people say can't be done. I am in no rush as my Supra is priority at the moment so I will be collecting parts and hopefully post pics sometime in June.

 

96 3 inch spacer in front 2 inch block in back ,18 inch wheels on 285 75 18. Idk they look too big sometimes, and other angles it looks badass. Whatchawl thank??
