Now building my audio setup

I recently made a thread discussing options for my build, and now I finally have the time to do it. The only piece I currently have is a Pioneer avh5700dvd flipscreen.

I have decided that I will NOT be putting in a sub woofer because there is nowhere possible to put one where it will be out of my way. So with that being said will the next best option be component speakers all the way around?

For those of you who missed my other thread I simply want a cleaner than stock sound with more power. Not looking to make it loud enough for people on the other side of the state to hear the system.

 

How did you come to the conclusion that there wasn't a place to mount the subs that was out of the way? Do you use the bins that are under the rear seats? (double cab?)

How much are you looking to spend on components? Will you have a separate amp for them?

 

Component set of the 6X9 flavor, and what ever fits in the rear of an access cab. Nice amp...done. Won't be outrageous, but will kick the crap out of the stock set up.

 

Yeah I always use my bins under the seats. And I've seen the enclosure that mounts in the center console... it takes up to much room as well. I have an access cab (2007)

As far as the price on the components I'm not too concerned with. I am willing to pay more for quality. I have an amp but I'm not sure if it will work or not with component speakers. I'm fixing to go look and see what model the amp is.

What I may do is just put the pioneer head unit in and the components i decide on (with yall help of course) and try it out. Then if I decide it needs more power I could add an amp.

 

Is flavor a brand? sorry i really dont know jack about audio...

 

I think he was suggesting a 6x9 component set. I would not recommend this.

My suggestion to you is to buy a nice set of components and deaden your front doors. If you seal up the doors with deadener the bass response from the front speakers will increase DRAMATICALLY. If you are looking to keep them fairly inexpensive the Phoenix Gold 6.5 RSD components are a great bargin. There is a great set of Precision Power components that are very budget oriented as well.

Remember, a speaker can only perform it's best when you place it in it's ideal environment. Treat your doors correctly and get a decnet set of speakers and you wont need much else but an amp!

 

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into deadening the door. What are those boxes in the pictures with the speakers and are they hard to wire?

 

Also, I notice these component speakers only have 2 front speakers and the tweeters. What about the back speakers?

 

Component sets all have those. Those boxes are called crossovers. Basically, you send power to them from your amplifier in the form of a + and - wire, then they send the high frequencies to the tweeter and the low frequencies to the midbass. They are pretty self explanatory and you should do fine wiring them.

I don't favor infinities. VERY bright tweeter in my opinion. Not a lot of bass either. Either of the two options I posted is light years ahead of the infinity set. I know you stated that you were happy with your past infinities but trust me, I think you will like both of those options more.

Here is the thing about rear speakers. You don't really need them. All they do is pull the sound stage to the rear of the car and screw up the sonic imaging. What size are the speakers in the rear? Are they the same 6.5" like in the double cab doors? If you were wanting to keep a stock look and still get a subwoofer you could use a 6.5" subwoofer. I run 4 Tang Band subwoofers in my car and they are glorious little beasts!

 

Well I might give one of the ones you suggested a try then. Those infinitys were all I ever had so I dont have anything to compare them to. So for the rear speakers are you suggesting I leave the stock ones, or unhook them completely? And your right, the rears are 6.5" as well. Do you have a link to said woofer?

 

Keep in mind what the OP is asking for here...not a full blown system.

Sorry, as posted already, it was just a word play. MB Quart, Eclipse, and Rockford Fosgate all make nice versions.
The RF is a little more complicated with it having two tweeters, just more mounting options is all.

well, factor in that you have 6X9's up front and 6.5's in the back currently, there would be major surgery (fabrication work) to get them 6X9's in the back.

Just stick with the factory layout and upgrade the speakers that will fit in them. You'll end up with the most bass response you can get, and still be way ahead of the stock speakers. Add an amp, and it'll be that much better.

Try not to get all hung up on 6.5 components sounding so much better than a set of 6X9 components. For what you are looking for, you'll not notice anything negative at all. Some folks just get wrapped around the axle and think there is only one way to good sound. Good sound is what YOU think sounds good. Since you don't know poop about audio, let's not get all fancy. Keep it simple.

 

Like to add that you should plan on getting your speaker baffles (adapters) from MrMarv. Top notch product and one of the nicest guys you'll ever talk to.

Great little woofer. Takes more than double RMS wattage and will love it. Could be an option for you.

I thought about that later last night. I think he might be ok with a 6x9 component set but generally the offerings aren't all that great. If you think that 6.5" component systems can't provide decent bass you're out of your mind. If you do it right you can get a significant amount of low end output from 6.5's.
