    Hi there,

As title explains....I come to a light slap on the brakes on the truck comes to a stop....about 5-8 seconds later its like my truck switches gear and jolts foward causing me to apply more pressure on the brake to ensure it won't go any further...

    Anyone?

From what I read on axle wrap it sounds it is caused by the deterioriation of the leafs springs, but I got the tsb is excellent condition. It really seems like the issue is coming from the tranny.

My '08 started to do something similar to this about 2 months ago. It does not happen all the time. I thought maybe my brakes were getting worn (60K miles), so I had my mechanic, who I trust, take a look. I explained what it was doing -- after about 5 seconds at a stop, it feels like I get hit from the back and my truck lunges forward about 6 inches. He said it is because my brake pads are "seating" or "bedding" on the rotors. He told me my pads still had about 60% pad left - I didn't change them.

Has anyone out there heard of this?

As for the trans, I dunno......these seem to be fairly adequate transmissions I think.

Axle wrap will happen on a brand new truck, brand new tsb packs also are suseptable (been there)......atleast check your u bolts. Toyota spec in the factory service manual is a typo and states 35ft lbs..... crank them to 75.
That alone has helped many ppl.

That atleast is a free way to do process of elimination.

Also, I think there is a tsb for the trans regarding shifting :)

Someone also stated they had a thump but it seemed to be gas tank fill level related.

    Try the free stuff first

Ac compressure. Turn off the ac and see if it still does in. My truck has been doing that since the day it came off the lot. Not axel wrap.

It's a common thing on the Automatic transmissions.

If you search the forum Automatic lurch, you'll find lots of other threads.

If you come to a stop too quickly, the transmission needs to downshift causing the rpm's to increase during the downshift causing the lurch. The more gradual your stops are, the less you'll feel this lurch. It can feel worse when the A/C is on.

Not anything to be alarmed about. As far as I know, its just the normal operation of the auto tranny. Mine has been doing it since the day I bought it 6 years ago and 58K miles later.

Nope, never heard that before.....I have replaced my brakes (rotors and pads) 2 times already due to upgrading. Both pad sets were performance pads and needed proper bed in procedures....I have had zero lurch at anytime from the pads.......if ur on the brakes very lightly and the a/c is on, I can see that being a good candidate tho.

He's saying that after using 40% that they aren't bedded in?

Axle wrap was evident on my tsb springs, but ymmv.

How do I know? Aal stopped it.

All trucks have their own quirks tho.

It helps that u can relieve the pressure on the driveline before u stop by pushing in the clutch

This. Autos with A/C do this. My '05 DC & '13 AC both did/do this. Just don't take any short naps at traffic lights, & you'll get used to it.

I've only had my 13 auto a few months and have been noticing this similar thing, I'll notice it lurches forward ever so slightly after coming to a stop, but enough to make me look in the rear view to see if some one behind me tapped me.. I'm wandering if it may have something to do with the torque converter?

its not axle wrap. its the AC compressor, which , unless youve cut the wire behind the AC panel, is on most of the time whether youre running AC or not. its normal.

Mine has also been doing it since day one and I have 250,000 miles on it now. (also have leaf tsb done) I do recall reading old threads that its a tacoma transmission anomaly. very common.
