My only question is do you have any issues with shrinkage fractures , particularly around the corners of the sink and the inside corners of the top ?

 

None that I know of. It's only my second countertop. This will be the first that's not just a big rectangle. The other countertop didn't shrink really. I think it's because the mix is fairly dry. I've seen it done this way before so my guess is it's not a problem.

The area around the sink is just a mold that will be removed when it's dry. The stove cooktop knockout will remain.

 

I am confused about how you are doing the sink area. Is it going to be an under-mount sink? And if it is shouldn't the form around it cover the holes for the faucet? Any way, I am sure I will understand it when you are finished.

 

It's an undermount but the holes are exposed. We just covered the back lip of the sink. The form around the sink will be removed after it's dry.

So the faucet will be mounted to the sink and not through the counter top? If I am understanding you correctly, I have never seen one done that way. Under-mount sinks don't typically have holes in them at all.

 

I'm wanting to build a covered front porch onto house. My roof is v crimp. I'd like to have some light thru to porch for plants. I just don't know if I should build the roof entirely of corrugated translucent or v crimp with skylights?
Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks.

 

The sink was a dual mount sink. You could mount it surface or undermount. That's why the holes are already there.

 

Put a sky light or let the plants get the light from the sides. If you are making a "good" porch, I think the translucent panels will take away from the porch.

 

Thanks. I do want a good porch. That's why I'm not really wanting to build it with a corrugated roof. This little area is safe from dogs,and deer. I'd like a good covered area to sit outside when it rains.

I would rip the drywall out and start fresh. Drywall is cheap enough.

 

Is it actually stucco or texture ?

 

When you had your abestos testing done , did they test it too ?

Is it old or recent ?

 

i have never had to remove stucco before, but you said it wont absorb water because it is painted over. I wonder if you could perforate it using one of those tools for scraping wall paper like this, i think its called a paper tiger

Just an idea, im not sure if it would work, but if you could get it to absorb water i would think it would be easier to scrape.

Is scraping it damaging the paper face of the drywall ?

 

If it's a smaller area , I would scrape

You could try a wider tool

If it's a bigger area I would board over it or as mentioned above remove the board and re-drywall

 

The main thing is that you don't want to mangle the paper face of the board

 

I would just tear down the existing dry wall and redo it. My wife and I have been scraping wallpaper off and on for a month in our bathroom. Should have just gutted the walls and redone them. But I didn't want too try to drywall sheets in around the cabinets, light fixture, toilet, etc.

The wide, open, hallway is a different story. We gave up scraping that and it's going to be a summer project when we can open the doors and ventilate batter.
