Life's to short. Don't sweat the small stuff. That's coming from someone that they wrote the saying of (It's not me, it's the OCD) Back on track. The truck is now broken in and driven a little more aggressive and getting about 17 mpg around town. Later.

Those numbers look low for a 2.7 Do you do a lot of short trips? It's amazing how much fuel these engines use before they get warmed up.

Got 23 driving mine home from Ashville to Indy. Lately, it was the 21-22 range on a 60 mile/day commute.

Of course, now it costs almost 60 bills to fill it up each week, so I'm driving my wife's Matrix to work...:anonymous:

How are you I4 guys getting such good mileage. When I first got my truck the first 3 tanks were 20, 21, 22. Since I've started logging milage for the volumized fuel trend thing, I've gone from 17.8 in early feb to 18.3 this last tank, and I'm at around 3600 miles. My daily commute is only 5 miles round-trip, but most the miles on a tank are highway miles on the weekend. Also, I usually shift between 2-3k rpm; unless I'm getting on the freeway, then I'll shift at like 4k.

You have an almost worst case scenario. For at least the first 3 or 4 miles the engine is still warming up and it goes thru gas like a frat party goes thru a keg. According to my scangauge even after it's warmed up stop and go traffic in down town Providence only gives me 16-17 mpg. Your shift points are also higher than you want to maximize your MPGs. I usually shift at around 2000 to 2200 RPM and rarely see 3000. It's not an exciting way to drive. :p

P.S. I've removed the secondary filter and added an aftermarket air filter. I track my mileage carefully and these changes were good for about 2 MPG.

The first 5-6 thousand I was only getting around 20 mpg. Now all the sudden the last 2 tanks have been coming in around 25-27. Truck has 7,000 miles now, so maybe its breaking in or maybe the gas has been different the last couple tanks. who knows but I am not complaining

I always run 87 octane. NO high grade for this truck--I bought if for its low maintenance and operating cost so it can survive on the cheap stuff.

I am getting a steady 18 - 19 mpg running regular gas and using the A/C almost all of the time while driving in the burbs.

On a highway trip, I can get 20.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that they've started the summer formulation in your area.

Thanks for the comments. I'm planning on removing my secondary air filter. I'm trying to wait until another board I'm on has their first dyno day because I want to see what difference it really makes hp/tq wise, but it's not worth paying full price for. Also, I think when the dealership did my first oil change they put in 5w30. The receipt doesn't say what they used, but the window sticker has 5w30 written on it.
