Thanks! I just beat the shit out of them using a regular hammer instead of the dead blow and they finally started coming loose. While I was breaking the kingpin loose, the carrier fell out of the housing.:D No pry bars or case speader haha

I want to SAS my rig so bad. And I want it totally streetable since its still my daily driver.

I want strong axles. Run 37s, maybe bigger. Although bigger than 37 really puts the hurtin down on the daily drivin' part.

Not sure if I should go 1 tons, or maybe get some diamond axles. 37's and 1 tons wouldn't give me the best clearance.

If you want to run 37's your gunna need to run a hybrid 9 inch with 60 outers or bigger, if your gunna stay around the 35 to 36 you could get away with a diamond Toyota housing or a d44 probably. I suggest you become a member on rocksolidtoys.com there is tons of good info on there.

I will be running 37 with my IFS before I go SAS! 37 isn't really a huge time, but I'd rather have a little overkill than not be strong enough for axles.

Thanks for the suggestion on RST. I'll begin looking in there.

Depends what your budget is! For 37's, Diamond axles with Tacoma 8.4 centers is going to give you a good balance between clearance and strength. If you don't want to spend that much, rebuild some junkyard 1 tons and throw em underneath. Some people run 37's on 1 tons, you just have to pick lines more carefully :D

Yeah I like the idea of the Toyota differentials. Though it may rule out the option of running tires bigger than 37".

What should I use for the ends/knuckles of the axles? Not sure if ballpoints, or the old school Toyota setup would be better. I'd kinda like to stay away from stupid wheel bearings that are associated with the balljoint style knuckles, other than the beefy 1 ton(8lug) bearings.

If your gunna run Toyota centers then 37's are the limit on the 2gen tacomas, with the Toyota outers you will run into problems with the trunion bearings with 37's, I would run d60 outers for sure.

jamie you could always run a d60 ford 9 hybrid get the clearance you need with all the beef you need but it will cost you much more then just buying a set of good used 1 ton axels and rebuilding em

D60 ford 9 hybrid.... I'll need a little better explanation, I don't know too much about big axles yet! Is that a diamond axle or an actual ford axle?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Im running 9" centers with D60 outers on my rig check out my build and i have both a diamond and a spider 9 and i would go spidertrax or ruffstuff for the housing. My build is a little over the top budget wise but thats what you want if you dont want to build a junk yard axle.

As for hybrid axles unless you have the money to buy 2 of everything(axle shafts, and other odd stuff) then just keep it simple and go with a regular set of tons.

Need your guys' opinion since I don't know exactly what I'm looking for here.

Are these fine? Do they both need to be replaced? Leave the driver side and replace the passenger side?

40's are fine on 1 tons too, that's what I'll be running. Trust me, with your big 2nd gen, you won't regret 1 tons.
