This tank is going to suck.
Not the worst ever, but it's not likely to break 24.

Traffic has been horrible this week.
Ended up getting off the freeway today.
3 hours to make the 45 mile trip home.

Another month another tank, finally the weather has turned.

573.4 miles on 18.565 gallons for 30.9 mpg.

$3.199 after $0.60 discount from Safeway.

I can average up about 385 miles a tank, which translates to average of 23-25 mpg. I know it is pretty sad for a 4 cylinder but for a 18 y.o. driver like myself I think I do ok.

Yes, warm weather and regular gas is helping to restore reasonable FE. The overall average MPG is rising and around 22.5/22.6 and my recent commutes have been closer to 24 in/25 out. I've been using a different route into work which shaves about 11 miles a day off the commute, avoids highways, and allows me to reduce consumption. The tradeoff is about 20 minutes longer in the truck (10 in/10 out). But the ride is also more enjoyable - goes through a few nice affluent townships with joggers...pretty ones. :)

I wonder what they have improved over the years, the highway mpg stays at 25 but the city is up from 18 on my 2005 to 21 on the 2013? In 2007 city went to 20, then 21 in 2011. A few years along the way the highway has gone to 26 and then back again?

Lower fuel consumption at idle? Lower viscosity oil? Different low rpm tuning? EPA gamesmanship?

A recent run from Seattle to Vancouver and back netted me 19.5 mpg - almost all highway (93% or so of the driving was highway). Stuck to the speed limits, though 70mph stretches do hurt things a bit...

    No A/C.

...and while I'd love to do better, I think that's pretty good given it's a 4wd with 265/75/16s on it.

Above 30-40mph, AC Windows up = less drag than windows open.

While I agree 100% with what you say, there were more practical reasons... ;)

    1 - torrential rainfall
    2 - cool temps

Just no need for the AC on that drive. Give it another month, though, and I'll be tipping into the AC more for the summer... ;)

    That's why I didn't say "Windows up > down"

    It's not always > :D

They probably took notice of the numbers you were posting (along with others in this thread) and figured, "What the heck!!" :)

I've noticed across all makers that run an engine configuration for extended periods (several years) that they generally can tweak it for better MPGs and often times an HP here or there. Definitely gamesmanship in play here as you can see by the rankings, most trucks are within a digit or two so to claim top spot, not much needs to be done. Subtle refinements in the truck to smooth the lines, oil, different software for the idle/transmission shift points. I suppose the game can be played a number of ways.

I've got an 88 22re 5 lug auto that'll do about 260-265 per tank. But it only takes 11 gallons to fill it up. So aprox 24mpg. This is just back and forth to work and general driving. And I never hesitate to let that 22re spin up. I wish my 99 prerunner would do that.

For a automatic with a moderate load, and lots of short trips, that is not too bad. The main things to remember, is speed kills MPG, hard acceleration kills MPG. Drive like you have a raw egg under the throttle pedal, and see if that helps.
