Happy Birthday! Make the most of every day. One day you'll wake up with greying pubes  and wonder where all the years went.

It seems that a couple guys are of the sentiment "go big all at once with one or two parts" to develop power, but I think if you can economically produce small amounts of power making sound bolt-on changes it'll all add up. Of course I want a S/C, but if I can build up slowly its worth it.

For me I think I can afford to work (over time) the exhaust, headers all the way back. All of the peripherals. The top end. I can afford smaller URD electronic upgrades that'll have an effect now (but a greater effect when I S/C). I can afford a URD CAI. Build up the power plant slowly so when I install a S/C I get stupid/silly results immediately, not just 80 HP.

My attitude is I cant spend S/C money nor can I save that 6000.00. With a house and two teen age daughters something will always have priority over my wants and me. I am ok with that cause like any parent I will give them as much as I can. I can however afford small purchases and the fam is always looking to get something for birthdays and fathers day.

That's what I'm saying. Maybe this year you get headers, y-pipe, and exhaust. Next year you work on valves, cam, and intake. And maybe in a couple years, if the stars align just right and Pluto is in retrograde, you'll be able to slap a S/C on a motor you've built up (and had fun with) and get stupid/silly gains from it :D

My attitude is, this truck will never be a power plant as long as I own it, I have no desire to go through tuning or deal with all the extra servicable parts. That being said, I want to add power in an RPM range that I'll actually use. Ideally, that would include this spacer if the damn thing works, short tube headers, possibly new y-pipe and I'd love the programmer but it's too pricey for me.

If you like to actually off road your truck, I wouldn't go with the URD CAI, just seems to be asking for trouble! I'd honestly consider a snorkel before a CAI. Better bang for your buck performance-wise and will make the truck more functional if you plan on using it. One of them I believe can be used with a supercharger, the Safari snorkel can not.

Height-wise the URD is about as high up as you can go. They also have a protective shroud available. I'm not going swamping in my truck for a long, long, long time. If I fjord any water I'll take it really slow and run away like a little girl if it's getting deep. Simply cant afford to ruin it. Down the road a snorkel will be a consideration.

The snorkels aren't more restrictive with the bends?

Height-wise, you're correct but if you're doing a deep water crossing, you plow in then ride behind the wave you just made in the low section. Pulling air from the fender would keep the engine from sucking water during that initial plunge and also puts the intake in the low part of the wave. The URD is much more prone to water ingestion by comparison.

Snorkels have the benefit of ram air. I've been watching some of the other user reviews of the snorkels and they actually seem to be even getting better MPG as a result. The Safari snorkel wouldn't let enough air flow for a blower, I can't remember the other brand but it is larger and I guess compatible with a blower.

    Stuff
Pick up some FSAE books, look up some stuff on dynamic gas/ fluid theory and modeling, thermodynamics, etc.. It's all very real. Not saying the gains posted aren't real, just saying the amount of supporting evidence given (dyno sheet) doesn't satisfy me personally.

Guys have been using intake mani spacers for years on carburated engines to help with egr deletes, and keeping the carb cooler so the fuel doesn't vaporize prior to reaching the chamber in high HP engines.

Like I said before, IMHO it's a waste on an EFI engine. Just my $0.02.

Those facts make the volante with ram intake look attractive. I saw the setup installed and its pulling air from jst over the top of the radiator.

Agreed, the existing dyno for the Taco in no way satisfies my need for evidence. We'll get this thing hashed out or highaltitude will post some real data, whichever comes first. I think Alexs butt dyno will be the first thing we'll hear about.
