Yea you like repetition. Why you like country rock and rock haha it's very very repetitive.

Improv is hard for those to appreciate unless you've done it or understand music theory. I like to say jazz is music for musicians.

Like this. This I Carl Saunders. FREAK of a trumpet player. It sounds easy yes? Holy..fucking..shit..it. Is. Not. I have a transcription of this solo and I couldn't even attempt most of it. It is unreal how beautiful he sounds and effortless.

But..do you know that just listening to it? No. Only cause I told you. Would most musicians know this shit was uber hard? Yea..but the person that really appreciates it are..trumpet players and other brass players.

But the. You look at the musical ideas and lyrics he plays and it's relatable to sax players and even they drop their jaws.

    http://youtu.be/fW6Ly_THQ4k

This music isn't so far off from your simple country rock song you posted tho. Your used to like..

    Intro
    Verse1
    Chorus1
    Verse 2
    Chorus 2
    Bridge
    Chorus 3/4
    Outro

The song I just posted is just like that..BUT we think of it different.

AABA Is very common. A being usually 8 bars of a certain chord progesstion and B being another of a different progression of 8 bars. The length can vary from 4 bars to 12 or 16

    Then there is AABACA

or AABABA or just AB sometimes.

That pattern is constantly being ran through over and over and over in a jazz tune. Jazz players call it the form. And usually are so nine with it that you don't even have to count to know where in the song you are.

Now your cou try song is similar because the verses are all the same..A
    Chorus'...the same..B

    Bridge..different C

so with that you could map out any song really. Then you can break it down more too. When I'm engineering a tune I break up a song into

    Intro
    Verse1a
    Verse1b
    Chorus1a
    Chorus1b
    Interlude
    Verse2a

    Ect.

Sorry I'm going overboard with this shit.

It's all good man. We all go a little over board with the things we like. haha Plus I actually understood a lot of what you said, but you broke it down in the structures for me. I cna't do that myself though... I don't know if it has to do with my hearing loss or if I am just musically retarded, but my intro to music class kicked my ass. I don't understand a lot of those fancy music terms. haha Can't think of any of them off the top of my head though. My teacher would play something and tell us to listen for some of those "whatever music terms" and I couldn't pick them out to save my life...

nah don't need it. Don't like it.

    Lol yea true i guess..

and it takes a lot of practice and time to get good at it. Even i am not the greatest at it. Like i really have to listen to pick out chords. I have friends that can listen to something and write out the chord progression as it goes and everything.

Someimtes I'll listen to a song and I just pick out one instrument to focus on throughout to better appreciate what is going on. This is why I don't like simpler music. I find it boring. Except sometimes. I do have my occasional AC/DC regressions...

yea i do that..actually i listen to music really weird compared to most. I listen for production choices..haha and that has to do with stuff like that. But i love envisioning how and why they decided to do something. Lets cut out the bass and drums right here..lets layer the vocals here..lets just add a small synth line here. Lets add delay to that..reverb..eq filter..god im nerd..lol

and simple music can still be great.

AC/DC is awesome i think. because its simple. Sometimes simple is better. I just can't listen to just that for very long then i get bored.

my biggest thing for music is feel. If it grooves and feels great..ill love it most likely.

AC/DC FTMFW!! haha I think the Scorpions are probably my favorite band from that whole generation though. AC/DC is a damn close 2nd though.

My freshman year in College, 1st semester ever so Fall of 2007, I had an AC/DC hoody that I always wore and my econ teacher stopped me one day coming into class and asked me if I even knew who they were. He seemed surprised that I did. He said they were his favorite band in his younger days and was curious if I actually knew them or was just wearing the stuff to be cool or whatever. haha

I am at a loss... haha. I PM'd Jhodge and he doesn't know of any restrictions for accessing regional threads so I just PM'd tcbob about it so he can see if there is some bigger conflict causing cowgirlrideon's problem. She can make threads and posts, as well as surf TW, but she can't get into any of the regional forums/threads it seems.

I actually heard his baroque before I heard his jazz. It is awesome. Just thignking about the fingering and quadruple-tounging makes my brain hurt. BTW, this is why chicks dig horn players.

So Monte, I'm sure you have, or have listented to, Buena Vista Social Club, and also Last Tempation of Christ?
