I just picked it up. I havent had a chance to sight it in yet. The build quality seems great though. If it works and holds zero like the reviews say, I dont know why anyone would spend 3 or 4 times as much on a aimpoint unless there is a durability need for law enforcement, military, etc.

I like mine a lot. However, the red dot gets really dim when the battery starts running low. I was at the range last week outside and I couldnt even see the dot. Once I changed the batteries it was a lot brighter.

What I have been told by several local long range experts(I do it a lot, but am far from an expert) is that with the right rings, you shouldn't need to lap them at all. The Vortex matched rings, for instance, need no lapping.

    http://swfa.com/Vortex-Precision-Matched-Rings-C2981.aspx

There are some issues that can arise that may require that you lap your rings. I may have been lucky or it may just be the norm now, but I have never needed to do anything to any rings or mounts that I've used.
My 5R .300 Win Mag bolted together perfect and shot .75 MOA OTB, but a friend had issues with his that needed correcting.

Here's a thread I just Googled for reference:

    http://www.sniperforums.com/forum/optics/28132-lapping-necessary.html

From what I can tell, though, the most common issue with an Remington 700 is the receiver not being torqued properly to the stock bed from the factory. Check that first. It will save you a huge headache if you are interested at all in shooting tight groups.

My first and only gun (so far).

Springfield XDm9 4.5" barrel. Added PRP Rubber grips, PRP reduced pull Trigger & Sear springs, and mirror-polished the barrel (not pictured).

Like mentioned in that thread a few times it is a determination of tolerance stacking. Using a one piece scope mount set up will help eliminate that. I do always bed my base to the receiver and use 1 piece ring sets as they are machined together and can't move away from that. Even matched ring sets such as the vortex can e perfectly aligned to each other and then be mounted on a base that gives enough play between the two rings giving bind. Ring bedding is another way to possibly go.

New Mesa Tactical shellholder to replace the TacStar, which for a polymer shellholder did very well for several years!

holy fucksticks! you have a detachable foregrip for that thing? i thought my 10 1/2" barrel super blackhawk was bad. looks like that barrel would have a lot of heft to it.

Well if I ever find the 15" barrel for it I'll have to get one. That's a 10" barrel. The extra inch and a half the, completely unnecessary compensator, adds to it makes it look much longer. It isn't too bad to hold on target.

Now this new barrel for the 44mag is going to be interesting to hold on taget. :D

I've been going to build parties where 10 people get together and share tools and expertise, kinda like a mod day. It is hard, you need to know how to do head spacing for the barrel, riveting, spot welding, heat treat, press in the barrel straight, sand blast, parkerize, etx. It took me a solid 10 hours last time, with 10 ppl sharing tools and the parkerizing process.
