    i will.

i've got a PC that would like to replace the Mobo, CPU and GPU on, it has xp on it, if i have the key for windows i shouldn't have a problem replacing those parts should it?

    the CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106002

    the MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128515

    and the GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121722

this is a VERY budget minded build, i want a quad core CPU to make sure it has the power to keep up with software for a few years, the MOBO is a inexpensive one that has decent reviews.
and the GPU because we already have that one and it's not a limiting factor on our other PC.

Unless you are putting all this in a slim case you don't need a low profile video card. Typically they charge more for those as they go into rack mounted servers.

Everything else is fine. You'll need a CPU fan, if you don't already have one. What ram are you going with?

That card looks good, comes with a free game too! Win/Win

Are you going to use 64bit windows or 32bit? If 64bit, I'd suggest 8gigs of ram. 32bit only supports 3-3.25gigs of ram so 4 is fine if that's the route you are going.

is xp available in 64 bit? i'll eventually upgrade to w7 (not a fan of 8), but it's $200 for the OS.

If the OE PSU doesn't work with this setup (it should) then i have to get another PSU, i did a PSU calculator and a 500-550 watt will work great.

and here's the specs on the machine i'm gutting, i'm assuming it's 32 bit since theres only 512 mb of RAM.

OH, and the fan is included with the CPU :woot: less money to spend.

Yes Xp is offered in 64bit.

500 watts should be fine, but you'll want to check the connections on your current PSU to make sure they will work for you new mainboard/GPU.

Are you a student? you can find windows 7 with a student discount for around 40-80$ online. Lots of times the schools have discounts they can offer you as well.

    cool, learn something new everyday

that's what has me concerned, the PC is in MISS. and i'm in CA, so if i got the stuff i couldn't check that.

i will be starting this fall, thanks for the tip, i'll look into it for the PC and possibly put it on my macbook.

If you can have someone tell you the model number of the PSU you can look it up online and make sure it has the right connections.

Due to being a student on and off for almost a decade, I can safely say that you can get just about any OS and "school related" software for damn cheap.

I paid $30 for the latest MS office edition, for both PC and Mac...

True story. My wife got Windows 7 64bit pro for 36$ through her school. MS office was like 25$ for the student version.

    i might do that

    that's cheap
     that's really cheap.

i dug around some more to see if i could get my combo cheaper so it has a better chance of getting by my funds manager (mom), and i found a cheaper MOBO (comes with 8 gb of free RAM) and possibly better CPU.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113288
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138366

the price difference is the price of the RAM, and i still keep quad core and gain CPU speed.

    That's good to know.
1 more question, how capable do y'all think this rig is?
i mostly play AOE 3, america's army 3, and TF2 and once i build this rig i'll play medal of honor : pacific assault.

Yeah man let us know how it goes. I'd love to have something like this but need to see it in action before I drop my coin on it.
