1 piece at a time... and it didn't cost me a dime.. (Johnny Cash song... Anyone?)

Nice truck though, hate to see it go. FWIW houses are overrated. Not worth selling your baby for... (imho that is) Plus the market is F-ed for buyers right now, at least here in California.

I use a torque wrench religiously. There is only one guy in town around here that uses a TW, and he is the only other person that does any work on my Toy. I do go to 100ft/lb.(I think 85ft/lb. is the recommended torque.) I know it's a little high, but I am assuming that someone along the way has over-torqued them. I have not had a single problem on any vehicle I've owned.

Are your wheels "steelies"? I think it's not as important with steel wheels because the steel will compress when the nut is pressed against it. That makes for a certain amount of tension against the nut. Cast or forged aluminum doesn't compress the same way so having equal amounts of torque at each nut presses the wheel against the drum or disc evenly. (I probably sound like an idiot and am not explaining it right?)

AND...for years I just cranked them down as tight as I could with a 4-spoke wrench and only lost one wheel in 35 years. Since that day I use a torque wrench and love the fact that I don't drop a nut trying to get my wheels off. I do re-torque after 10 miles then about 100 miles or so. (not to be too rude, but the only place I'm allowed to be anal is on my Toy:))!

When I looked it up in my Haynes that's what it was - 85. I borrowed a friends clicker. Wonder if torque sticks are worth the investment ?

"re-torque after 10 miles then about 100 miles or so." Interesting. Do you find they are OK or have they loosened up ?

    :D I figured I'd take some shit for that.

I bought the truck with 100,000+ miles on it. I figured it was a fair assumption the someone had over torqued them at least once.

As far as my anal-re-torqueing, I use never-seize on everything, including the back of the wheels to stop corrosion from aluminum on cast discs and drums. That and any rust etc. in between them can hurt the original "seat". As said, just good security!

So, flame away, I've been married twice, I CAN TAKE IT!:D

It turns out that the bike mounts are easier to tie my dogs to than the factory cleats, so they are staying in the truck. The problem is that the clamps are loose and rattle when there is no bicycle fork in there. So I made some spacers out of Teflon today. The slot is .020" smaller than the shaft, so they snap on nicely. Then I can clamp the skewer shut and drive around without any rattling.
The spacer without a slot in the back is a nylon spacer I made to take up the slack in my locking hitch pin.
