People buy what suits there needs. I didn't need all the extra fancy shit because I bought my truck to by a truck. Hell my 12 has too much technology for my liking.

That's the problem in my opinion. People buy trucks and expect them to have all the fancy shit their cars have. Air conditioned seats, "Cadillac" suspension, etc.

Man I think the person that wrote this review was drinking or high. They mixed up the Tacoma with the Nissan Frontier.

I've never understood measuring a vehicle against unintended uses. Kind of like measuring an aquarium with a voltmeter. Sure, you might get a readout but do the fish care?

I miss read your point before.. you are showing the stats for what auto makers classify as the full size market. Ok so Ford has a slight advantage in that market and they are constantly changing to stay ahead of competitors. Now look at what is classified as the mid size market. The tacoma dominates the mid size market. So as everyone else has pointed out, if its not broke don't fix it. If they can continue to outsell every other manufacturer in the mid size market, why would they pay money to change something? Until other manufacturers step up, the Tacoma will probably remain as outdated as it is now

According to CR, the 1st gen Taco was unimpressive, with awful ride and built with flimsy sheetmetal...

I don't think anyone is really taking consumer reports seriously anymore, Their highest scored car ever award went to the Tesla Model S, Although a great car... I find it humorous that the award went to the car most in common with a toaster.

As for everything they review, If it doesn't ride like a cadillac, Steer like a ferrari, have space like a limo, gets Prius gas mileage then it's garbage to them... I think their best truck of all time type award went to a Honda Ridgeline, Which is a unibody FWD biased AWD Honda Pilot with a small bed.

I do agree with them though that the Tacoma is very outdated, Toyota is basking in the glory of their credibility to make ultra reliable vehicles so people will still buy them just based on that alone... The Toyota needs to get with the times as it is becoming regular to see posts about guys on here trading in their Tacoma's for Silverados, Jeeps and Rams because although not everyone cares about things such as leather seats, heated seats or steering wheels, ride quality or gas mileage... You are then a fading breed as creature comforts are being offered for less in Toyota's competitors.

Eh...not a good review to begin with.

Anyway, Consumer Reports' lovefest for Toyota has been long over ever since the unintended acceleration recalls. Up until that point, they had Toyota on a pedestal praising them for their superior reliability. They have been biasing their reviews towards American manufacturers...the Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. Toyota 4Runner review is a prime example. CR takes factors or parameters that are normally subjective (like materials, since whats cheap feeling to me might be pretty nice to someone else), and writing as if they are objective considerations that 'everyone' needs to take into account for the decision. Just poor writing in general, but since majority of people don't know how to think for themselves, they'd rather have someone else do it for them.

    X2, except 2 kids.

It kills me that people want trucks to ride like a Cadillac. SUV's I would understand that, but that's a whole different vehicle. You want a smooth ride? Buy a car it SUV.

Which is why I got my Taco. Crank windows, manual locking doors, a bullet proof 2.7 w/4 sp auto 4x4 (don't need 6 sp auto on a truck), very high resale (traded my 03 identical configured truck)
    03 $18,500
    Trade $6,500
Net depreciated cost $12,000 or $1,200/yr
    My new 13 cost $22,800 -$6,500 = $16,300 net

I bought a new 2013 Tacoma several months ago. I have been very satisfied/happy with the truck.
Previously, I had no complaints with the truck and neither does my wife or 2 kids.
Now, Consumer Reports says the Tacoma is not really that good. and not recommended
Wow. What a way to quickly rub off that new, satisfied buyer feeling.

Maybe they should make the next Tundra the HD version truck in the lineup with full luxury appointments, the next Tacoma becomes more in line a mix between the current "full size" and mid size truck, a tad bigger with more tech features and power, and then bring in a new "pick up" size truck around the size of the 1st gen tacomas that is aimed at the more off road/jeep crowd and sporting. ? So 3 trucks, the HD 2500/3500 size Tundra, the new mid/full size Tacoma, and the pick up 1st gen size "Mojave"

I think the CR report was accurate if they were reviewing cross overs and/or full size $60K trucks that compete with luxury cars.
