My clutch has been smoking in 4x4 hi and in reverse! It has been doing this since 5800 miles, documented at 8800 mi at dealer and at 12000, did a tear down and deemed it not under warranty... I'm looking for better than owm replacement since I have to pay for it anyway... Any ideas? Can't find one for 2012, seems too new?

Wrong truck; this is the 4 cyl thread and the issues with it's clutch. There have been issues with the 6 speed as well, but usually making a noise when the clutch is out. Sounds like a defective clutch or you just smoked it too much. Try another dealer. Check out the 6 speed threads. Good luck.

I find my whole truck shakes sometimes when I shift but I just figured it was because I shifted too early. Is this a clutch issue or did I just shift too early :s

When you accelerate and push the clutch in there is sort of a clunk or bang that is due to the drive-train being unloaded when you shift. It's the nature of design and the tension on the drive-shaft/carrier bearing. It shakes mine too sometimes going up hills.

Go under you truck (e-brake in gear) and move the drive-shaft with your hand laterally. Also spin it by hand and you will hear clunks, knocks and probably a lot of movement. You are also pushing larger tires with a lift that probably exaggerates it a little.

Just to share my experience, I had my clutch replaced under warranty at 14K for slipping. Apparently it was the same issue as the '07-'11 had - leaky slave cylinder boot. It caused a little moisture to get in and not to completely release the clutch, and it smoked itself. I'm not a hard driver, and this is not my first manual vehicle.
