This. We did Handies the week after july 4th 2 years ago and there were still up to 20 yard sections where the trail went straight through a snow fields. Plenty of traffic so the trail was visable and packed down though.

I have crampons and snowshoes and all that stuff, but I have never done anything like that with another human strapped to my back. ;) Especially one that I care so much about.

Apparently there's 14 14ers in the San Juans...but most of them are no less than an hour outside of Durango. Silverton/Ouray/Telluride area...

The 3 closest ones (Sunlight / Windom / Eolus) all have to be reached by taking the train and requesting a drop-off at Needleton.

You could also head up to Island, Ice, & Fuller Lakes....they're right outside of Silverton (about a 45min drive)...only hanging out at about 12,500ft (surrounded by a few 13s) but this is defo on my short defined hiking list for later this Summer.

What: Mountain Fiesta- Wheeling, Fishing, Hiking, Eating, Drinking, Laughing, etc.
Where: at the Steele cabin in Red Feather
Who: All you TW folk who feel like it (I have room for probably 4-5 families, as long as you don't mind sleeping in tents.)
    When: July 12-14
Why: To spread the love of having a mountain getaway and get to know more of you guys

Just let me know if this is something you would be interested in. We will have one room for people to stay inside in the spare room, but there is plenty of good tent sites on our property. I will probably make it BYOB or BYOF (beer or food) I will supply whatever I don't have you guys bring.

Thinking about the weekend of JULY 12-14. By then Deadman Road, and all the other nearby trails will be open and the days will be long for plenty of fun stuff to go on!

How does that sound to you all? I only have one extra room, and that will probably have to go to whoever needs it most (people with babies, etc.)

    Definitely:

    Maybe:

Tell them to move it back a week! JK. Well if that weekend doesn't work for too many people, I will move it forward a week (7/19-21). The week before is my Mom's birthday and I haven't spent it with her in a few years. Can't go too much after that cuz of Monte's WYO trip that I will be attending and after that I end up getting ready to go back to school.

I'm tempted to put us as maybe though since we're dependent on so many factors that we don't currently have control over. Most of our decisions are last minute these days. :(

If it changes, it is not a big deal, other than the fact that we will miss you up there!

We'll miss being there too. We've been stoked for this for a while now so if it doesn't work out for that weekend it will work out for some weekend, I promise. I need to get back to my country-boy farm roots man. This city boy thing is soul-crushing. :D

Who are you asking? I think Ost was saying that it will be hard to determine whether or not they can go until the last minute due to life circumstances. I have some flexibility to go to the next week, but not any other than that.

ost if it doesn't work for you guys to come up the weekend everyone else is coming, an invitation is extended to any other time that works for you and me for a more low-key meet up.
