I've had toyota pickups since around 1980, they have all driven like trucks, exactly how I expect them to drive, and quite frankly that is what I like to drive....a TRUCK, a damn nice truck at that. I've had Nissan, Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks too, but for me Toyota is it......I've got my Lexus GS300 for a commuter vehicle, fun ride, but I'd drive the Tacoma if gas wasn't so expensive.....hey, I like trucks :D

Put a turbo on that GS300. You'll even out the fuel consumption compared to the Taco :D

Bottom line is this. CR has never liked the Taco. They've been hating on it since 1995. Problem is...a lot of what they don't like about it is subjective. And nothing makes me roll my eyes more than someone trying to define subjective things as "fact".

I think the fact that there is such a limited market for a mid-sized truck is what hurts the review of the truck. The lack of attention that Toyota has given this truck also has not helped. Love it or hate it, the Tacoma really is an out-dated vehicle. It has not been through a major change - sorry, changing the grill and headlights doesn't count - in almost a decade, carries a price tag of a fullsize pickup, fuel economy of a fullsize truck, yet does not perform like a fullsize truck. Face it, for the regular Joe with a $30,000 budget that happens to not be brand-loyal, the Tacoma is not the best option.
