Use OEM housings or some TYC replacements and then get a retrofit projector kit from TheRetrofitSource.

Haha all you have to do is connect the cables to your battery? No wiring required...

There's no way it came from the factory like that, previous owner probably. Unless you were joking...

Yeah you're right. I guess the dealer installed them when the truck was new. I just know it came like that when the truck first sold.

will most of the different projector shrouds work with the 1st gen housing? or is there a certain range of dimensions that the shroud has to be for it to fit?

Depends on what year... I feel like any shroud will fit in an 00 housing like mine 01-04 may have a tighter fit. Anything will work with trimming ha

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
    Thanks for the replies.

My '97 4x4 3.4L uses 7x6 headlight housings. So far, the only replacements I've found seem to be sealed beam. The ones that aren't (Amazon and Rockauto) look like they are a different shape for the newer model Tacos.

So either I'm not seeing the correct ones or, what I suspect, I have to get the sealed beam versions and cut holes in the back and remove the bulbs to do the retrofit. Am I totally off base with this guess?

I'll try and find it again. There was a forum that had a thread where everybody contributed their vehicle and the wiring...kind of a database. I might have said it wrong, which wouldn't be surprising. Positive switched? Ground switched? Hell...I don't know. Now I HAVE to go find it.

Edit: Found it. Post #7 here indicates it's positive switched:
