I chose a Cayenne Diesel, a 914-6 3.4L race car and trailer to tow it to the track with(what I had planned to do with the Jeep):D
I got them all in the last three weeks. Now it's time to play!

    Your avatar...
I still like Toyota trucks, I just wish they would offer us what they offer the rest of the world. I towed my race car trailer home from the dealer with the V6 Tacoma. It was getting quite a work out. It could not keep up a head of steam on hills and got Horrific mileage towing. The Cayenne accelerates like hell uphill towing the trailer and will get 20+MPG doing it. I'm getting 24-28 combined and 32-36 highway(and with 403lb/ft). Try that in a Taco.
How much torque in the Taco? 160lb/ft??

I would buy one for the torque(towing, etc). MPG would just be a nice extra..

The base Cayenne at $59,000 was your choice? Motor Trends test model cost them $93,000 . . .

    You gonna tow with that?

Wife's friend was bragging about how good their '09 Cherokee was.
It's now broken. Going to be $2500 to fix the trans, and that's at a shop owned by a friend doing it for parts only.

    I don't see why not.

My '03 Tundra was just under 5000 pounds, 2wd access cab. Engine was a 4.7, it got 16-18.
My '06 Duramax was just under 8000 pounds, 4wd crew cab. Engine was a 6.6, it got 16-18.

A 3.0 Diesel in a Tacoma could quite likely see the high side of 40.

Keep dreaming. There are lots of limitations in aerodynamics and mass that prohibit a Tacoma from seeing 40 mpg, even with a diesel.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Depending on how it was geared I could realisticly see mid to high 30's. 3.0 would be 50% bigger than those high 40 mpg cars as well. Another thing to consider. Pair it with a good tranny and it would definately be way more than these 4.0 gassers.

I see your point, but diesels have a crop of problems that come along with them. Frequent oil changes, high initial cost, more costly fuel ups.

And of course, a Cayenne doesn't even have a trailer hitch or the electrics to hitch a heavy trailer to it, so how you gonna tow a 6000 lb trailer on that unibody design? You gonna spend $59,000 base price on something that isn't a truck and isn't equipped to tow?

Don't be so sure of yourself. It's very possible. With the advancement of engine technology I'm almost positive we'll see a truck getting at least the high side of thirty in the near future. Plus this ain't Rich's first rodeo. He's been around the block a few times I'm pretty sure he's not here to blow smoke :D

I haven't looked to much into the world Ranger, but did today. It is sad we do not get that truck. The exterior is very nice, and comes standard with a locker on the high end packages.

Not to mention the 2.2L get 150hp and 270 torque with 30mpg
    3.2L gets 200 Hp and 325 trq and 24mpg.

If those MPG's are real, and not inflated like the Tacoma it would be a great truck.

My old 4Runner V8 had 325 trq and it would seriously move for a big ass SUV.

I will be curious to test drive the new Amarok when it his Canadian show rooms. A 2.0L Twin Turbo TDI with 180hp and 310trq sounds mighty interesting. It looks ugly in stock form, but a lift and tires... Yum! not to mention after owning a 2012 VW GLI, they just drive sooo much nicer than a cheap plastic Toyota. The only downside to the Amarok is the lack of Low-range. Something I rarely use on my Taco, but is a savior when I do.
