Re-gearing would be the best way to go for sure. But...try explaining to my wife why I need to spend a couple grand to do it!:D

tel her it has to do with towing. lol tell her it will tow 100X better. also it’s probably a little cheaper to re-gear then get a supercharger.

Then She will have me towing a horse trailer instead of my camper. If I could get it done this week it would've been great. My wife drove to SC yesterday for the week to visit a friend. I should've planned it...and the ARB for the front.:p

I have a 2006 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 Short Bed, automatic V6 with Tow Package and with two adults I tow a Keystone Passport 2650BH 26ft travel trailer. The trailer weighs 4960lbs unloaded and between 5600 & 5800 lbs loaded. I use an Equal-I-zer Brand 4 point weight distribution hitch with built in sway control and a Prodigy P2 brake controller. While this is quite a load for the Tacoma at no time does it feel unsafe, sway or bounce. I tow in 4th gear and at 60 mph I'm turning 2500 rpm. At inclines I drop into 3rd gear and turn 3000 rpm. My fuel mileage takes a big hit and I get between 10.5 and 11.75 mpg depending on inclines and road conditions. Not the ideal tow vehicle for a trailer this size, but it does an OK job. Just take your time and don't be in a hurry! The Tacoma is a beast!

Thanks for the Info! I was going to get the 26'er but decided not too, price was not that big of a difference, just didn't want to drive tight! LOL

My new trailer. Econ 16bb 2500lb dry with 350 lb tongue weight. Tows great, even with going over a couple of 7000ft plus mountain passes I still got 14 mpg.

That's great economy towing over 7000' mountain passes. Nice looking TT, too!

This was a trip I made in April to Minnesota. I hit snow and ice early morning just after crossing the Iowa, Minnesota state line. It sure made for slow going to just north of Milaca. I dropped off the canoe and picked up the Willys. Headed back home with a stop off in Minneapolis for the AMA Supercross. Only parking I could find to fit in was parallel parked on the street a few blocks from the dome. Had to pay for two parking meters. Left Kansas City at 12 AM Saturday morning and was back at 7 AM Sunday morning. I averaged 14 mpg up and 10 mpg back with the cruise set at 65 mph in 6th gear except in MN. I did have to drop back to 5th on a couple of hills in Iowa. I don't know why I always take pics of the side of the trailer missing a center cap.

This is the small trailer I tow. I can't even tell it's back there compared to the other one.

This is the trailer I use to haul junk around the property. My brother left it to me. I keep it tagged but haven't had it on the road in years. He bought it for $5 and pulled it all over with a Cordoba. Made from some 30's or 40's car with a enclosed tube driveshaft.

I thought so to when we were looking at it, but it is a 4000lb axle and the trailer is only 2500lb. The manufacture said, that is what they are going to on the super lights now. We will see.

Less drag with the single axle.I think its a great set up pulling with a small truck.Newer campers are much lighter than the old school setups..

thought the same thing. I think I'd prefer a double axle for anything that size just for safety.
