    Do some research first.

You really need to decide what tire size you're running before you worry about a lift. I didn't say buy tires first, I said plan what you want ahead and do enough research to know what parts you're putting on your truck and why.

1.) What terrain will you be driving on?
2.) How tall of a tire do you need? (your tire height dictates ground clearance, not a lift)
Then, 3.) What amount of lift and/or trimming will accommodate 1 and 2?

up in the cascades in washington there is a lot of well good off roading. i need the travel. My stock set up is good but my damn skid plate drags on the gound on old logging roads. And early spring deep snow causes my front end to drag while blazing trail. losing traction and getting stuck. i will be running 245's for another year. then going to 255's. I take care of my truck. no jumping ever. But the suspension gets its fair work out when out in the woods. The front has hardly anything so doesnt matter but the back will sometimes only have one tire on the ground. so fully flexed out on some terrian. im used to driving a dodge 2500 turbo cummins so stiff isnt a huge problem.

You won't gain travel from a basic lift kit. Nor will you get your diffs off the ground. The main reason you'll need a lift is to fit whatever tires you choose.
By 255's do you mean 255/75-17? 255/85-16? etc? Because if you're running a 32" tire or a 33.x" tire that will change what you need to do to make it fit. So will how wide it is and what the backspacing on your wheels is.

My recommendation is Old Man Emu shocks and coils and either get the full Dakar leaf pack if you want all that lift or can afford it or if you want a cheaper or lower route get Wheeler's 3 leaf progressive 1.5" AAL and leave your stock OL leaf in for a total of 2" of lift in the rear and then shoot for 2.25-2.5" up front with whatever coils give around that (top plate may help if something isn't quite spot on).

you'd be better off with the 1.5 inch 3 leaf progressive AAL and leaving your OL leaf in for a total of 2 inches in the rear.

Set the front to 1.75 and add a 1/4" top plate spacer to each side for 2.25 inches of lift up front. Much better than just topping out the preload to the full 2.5 notch.
