So I just replaced my taillight with a replacement from Rockauto. I believe it was TYC CAPA light. Anyway, after about 10 miles driving I put my right blinker on and all of a sudden my truck started beeping and the R light (reverse) on the dash started blinking. I get home and notice that when I put on the right blinker the brake "red led ring" is now blinking and not the yellow bulb. I also noticed that whenever I use the right blinker the "R" also blinks.

Is this a safety thing that when the blinker bulb goes the truck knows and uses the brake lights?? Or do you think this is a defective replacement light? Hope I didn't mess the truck up any.

Was it a plug and play or did you have to wire it in? If it was simply just replacing the lense assembly and plugging it in, the part sounds defective.

Its either a poor ground connection or a short circuit, which could be in the truck wiring, the tail lamp wiring pigtail harness, or even a bulb. I'd start by making sure you didn't pinch the wiring when you installed the light, and checking all connections.

I know it sounds ridiculous since you only replaced the tail light, but I would also check the trailer harness if you have one. I've seen many a threads about tail light problems solved by fixing a short in the trailer harness.

Cross short and or short to ground, check your wiring.

I plugged the original back in and it works fine. So I am assuming something wrong in the replacement that was supposed to be plug and play

I haven't had the best of luck with rockauto parts lately also. Two different parts I bought had to be returned because they were bad... Ended up getting the parts on Amazon and they worked...

The customer service was great. A new one is on the way, so lets see what happens.

I agree, they handle my returns in one day. I'll buy more from them in the future, just a bad streak I guess..
