Previous owner used to haul heavy loads, so he put an AAL on it and TRD front suspension with a lift and custom rear suspension for added weight capacity. I recently installed a tow package (Curt with lifetime warranty) So i will definitely see what this thing can handle as far as weight goes.

That's a good one. You really beat the shit out of that tailgate. Just steal someone's in a parking lot. These things come off in less than 30 seconds.

    I wasn't serious about stealing someone's.

Hard to tell in your post. ;)

Plus that is a big problem for Tacomas in some areas.

Yeah thats a costly fuck up. Tailgates are pricey and come unpainted, best bet is to buy used.

Dealer would likely be 650-850 for painted replacement

Don't feel to bad, I had the tailgate ripped right off my 1st gen in front of me at work.

My boss asked me to bring some part to another machining company, their fork lift driver was picking up a 1200lb crate of steel parts out of the back of my truck, (think small heavy pallet/crate), and jerked the forklift and dropped the crate right on tailgate.

It broke both straps bent the tailgate over the bumper like folding a piece of paper.

Long story short, Their insurance company cut me a check, and I bought wheels and tires for my truck and my xterra, no more tailgate. Sold truck, bought 2012 :D

All I can say is it sure looks like a tree branch fell on your gate, wink wink.

Throw a locking handle on your new one (or for those of you who don't want yours to be stolen). Just got mine on the other day. I have an access tonneau that "locks" in the bed so the locking handle gives me some peace of mind as to what I leave in the bed. As for the boo boo...ouch! That's no fun

FYI i called around and found many places who had like new condition complete tailgates for 575-800 or so. not dudes on CL, but honest wrecking yards.

I may just get a sports net. But that means I have to tie everything I haul down. Fuck. My dad is a mechanic and is best friends (25+ years) with a body shop owner. If I can find one paint won't be an issue.
