If I shift ever so slightly prematurely I get 1-2 second rattling in what sounds like the stock exhaust. Any Ideas this kind of shit drives me nuts.

a 4 cyl by nature is a bit of a noisy beast. easy to lug as you only get a power stroke every what. . . . .360 degrees?

when you lug it, you feel every one of those power strokes, and so does the truck, especially the input shaft of your trans. I got rid of exhaust rattles on my old 22re by cutting off the heavy stock muffler and adding my own special made one:rolleyes: that weighed much less. it helped a lot

Check out all of the sheet metal heat shields on your exhaust. A spot weld might have come loose. If that's your problem, a quick and easy fix is to simply squirt some high temp silicone under the rattling shield. :)

honestly, it made my 22re sound so effing cool I thought about making and selling them for profit. imagine if a pig tried to sound like a supped up tractor. something like that.

im going to make one for my v6 soon. v6s sound silly though. big 4cyl noise is the best. but with multiple valves, and variable valve timing, Im afraid it would sound silly too

Let me be the smart ass: a 4 cylinder engine gets a power stroke every 180 degrees. :p

how often does a single cylinder make power? the last 4cyl I had apart had two pistons paired together, effectively making power as often as a twin. do the math

    I don't see why it wouldn't. :)
I use silicone because it's easier to handle, can be squirted in between heat shields, doesn't want to sag while drying, and remains flexible while being able to fill large gaps.

A easy test is to get under the vehicle and simply bang on the side of the muffler with your fist to get the exhaust system moving from side to side. You might have a pretty good chance of hearing the rattle and can determine its source.
