Thinking of Moving On

Hello everyone,

Maybe I was spoiled by my 93 Toyota pickup that we bought new and kept until trading for our Tacoma, but my 11 Tacoma just hasn't lived up to my expectations for quality. Drive train bullet-proof, but the lack of metal in the body and the poor quality of the interior materials are just not what I expect of a $30,000 + vehicle. Seems like Toyota has LEANed about all the quality out of my Tacoma.

Have any of you moved on/or are considering moving on, and if so, to what? Was it the right decision for you?

You can always go back to a first gen.

 

I think about trading in all the time but keep telling myself to make more payments, if i traded now id be upside down so i force myself to enjoy the taco, if i had the coin id be all over a 4 door wrangler

 

+1 Even if I had the money, I would stick with 1st gen. The only thing I like about the 2nd gen is the bed.

 

I had the frist gen taco a 97.. but it was too small for my needs.. in between other trucks, in 2007 had the 2nd taco.. hated the tranny. then after two more swaps. got the 12 taco with manual. Its a good but not like the 97 or 2007model but you still cant kill the engine. it keeps on going.
I just thinking of trading it in for a full size which I am soo use to but my brother told me better off having the taco... I want to save my money so I can retire down the line..... so this my 2 cent

 

I like my Tacoma but it hasn't impressed me enough to make it a slam dunk that I'd get another one. I'd consider another Tacoma but I will certainly look at other makes/models.

 

Had first gen Taco, AC OR, seemed just a tad to small. Traded in on 1st, 2nd gen Tundra, DC reg bed, got 2 more after that. Ended up being a little to big. This 2nd gen DCSB seems to be just about right for what I have going on now. Off roads well, drives great on road. Shop around see what you like. Aren't many mid sized trucks to pick from now, though.

 

I'll put money on u winding up in a Tacoma if urs staying with midsized/compact truck. IMHO to get a better truck Ur either gonna have to build it or shell out some full size cash for a full size truck. I no u can get a full size truck for close to what u can get a Taco loaded vita its gonna be pretty basic. If u want comfort and convienence Ur gonna pay for it.

 

The problem is that there is nothing else available on the market that will make you feel like you traded up. They are all of cheap quality materials inside and out.
That's one of the reasons I still have my 1st gen. Everytime I want to trade in on a new one the quality puts me off.

nothing on the market under 50-60 grand impresses me. and to get real excited I have to look at 100 thousand dollar vehicles.

so a few years ago, I said fukit and decided to extinguish the want for a superior quality vehicle. it's why I drive a 30K tacoma and not a 60K denali.

 

When I go to buy a new rig down the road I'll keep an open mind, but there isn't shat out there right now in the small-mid size range so I'm pretty sure it'll end up being a Taco. I have never thought about trading my current truck, I love it dearly. It would be cool if I could find a nice 2001-2004 Tacoma with less than 100,000 miles on it when I go to buy in about 6 years

 

Don't get me wrong, I still think Toyota makes one of the best trucks around, but I do think quality is getting lower.
My 1st gen Taco, I feel was much worse then my pre-Taco truck. My 2nd gen has been alright, but is an 08 with less then 60k on it.
I would love to go back to a pre 95 pickup but have gotten used to the bigger size and power.

My wife gave me the go ahead to get a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT.
Anyone have any insight on the Jeep SRT's.

I agree with you on the interior, and possibly with the overall value for the money......but what would the alternative be? Most new vehicles are overpriced for what you get.

I have to laugh though when you say the body lacks metal......I've owned an 86, spent a lot of time in my buddies 91, had an 04 for a company truck, and now drive an 06 and an 09 (company truck). The second gens aren't tanks, but the earlier trucks were tin cans.

Mine suits my needs just fine. Kinda pissed about the interior wear, failed catalytic converter, and clutch problems.......but I've had a lot of American trucks with stupid little problems, and I still think the Toyota is a good value compared to the other stuff on the market.

 

The Jeeps are nice when new, but reliability and quality is not good. This is not just my opinion, but based on both experience and research.

 

My only complaint is lack of frame protection against rust.

 

GAS HOGS. Hemi will haul ass. Over priced.
