I don't think there are any documented cases.

That said, the odds should be better than a ground tent under a tree. The wire poles and metal frame should (in theory) conduct most of the charge away from the occupants.

That said, lightning does strange things sometimes and it is best to be not around it. You get no penalty points for camping out in the truck through the worst of it.

 

Picked up the Mt Shasta on Saturday and headed out to try it out.

Vehicles are isolated from ground due to the rubber tires. That being said the tent should be isolated so the lightning shouldn't strike it

But like was said already lightning does unrealistic things so its hard to say what could happen

Air is a better electrical insulator than rubber is - and lightning will travel miles and miles through air. An inch or so of rubber is no protection at all.

In a lightning strike the metal frame will (in most instances) carry the current while you sit like a bird on a wire. If you are out and a storm happens, your best bet is to sit in the car and wait it out - especially if you camped in that sweet spot on the edge of an exposed ridge with a great view.

I did. Shipping via SIAI (not UPS). Mine was still sitting in Denver as of this morning while the drivers celebrate the holiday. Probably need to consolidate loads and then head this way.

It was more of a question for everyone. One person receiving tracking info doesn't tell me every tent shipped. But if a handful of people said "yes", I could take a guess at the method used to ship. Location, tent model, date of order, etc.

 

Should have my rack done Friday. Paint Saturday, ready to roll Sunday. Frak yea!

What soft topper do you have? Do you like it? how does it hold up? etc etc etc etc etc....

 

It is the Softopper, that's what it's called is Softopper. I like it very much, goes on easily in 5 minutes and comes off easily in 5 minutes. Or if you need to use the bed and don't want to take it off, just undo the 2 straps in the rear and it folds up against the back of the cab. It has held up great for me so far. I bought it used from a guy off CL for a little over $200 and I've had it for about 2.5 years now. I had it on my truck last year when I did a big road trip up through Oregon, Washington, and Montana. Went through a couple of nasty rain storms and unbelievably it stayed water tight.


I did not even contemplate the Bestop because I was not a fan of the side windows plus I had read some reviews where owners stated they had wished they went with the Softopper instead of the Bestop.

 

Infra what is the measurements on that rack? I'm guessing 32ish wide so your mounting bolt go in the brackets? And how tall and stuff? I haven't 100% decided what to do and Bobby called me today. Gotta drive and get mine soon!

 

The rack itself where the RTT will mount measures 38" x 38". Normally Box Rocket bed racks sit 6" above the bed rails, I had him modify mine so it sits a little taller...mine sits 11" above the bed rails.
