Well they have the 1VD-FTV, but it's not really suited for a HD pickup. 261hp, 479 ft/tq

    A 6.7 Cummins is 350hp and 650 FT/TQ.

The fuel economy isn't that much different, 1-2 miles or so. I expected the Taco to be a little better when I bought it. It's not just a power issue. It's me getting what I want and need. I've wanted a Platinum since they first came out in 2010. I need it because I will be towing cars a good bit. The extra capacity of the Tundra tank will outweigh the mpg difference to me. Besides I won't be driving it daily. I'll drive something that I have for sale and keep the miles low. There won't be any financial baths. Have you looked into the resale value of Tacomas? It is unreal. A friend of mine sold his for $1000 less than he paid for it new with 60k miles on it. When I get ready to sell my truck I will have 20k tops....

    back to bone stock.
i love the tundra. test drove one and really debated about buying one. in the end, i couldnt justify the payments.

later, i got the tacoma..i like it alot. i get decent mileage. i didnt have the big need to tow, like i had imagined.

good luck with the new truck..i wont put up with a vehicle payment for a long time. if ever.

True. but even babying both, the taco wont get much better maybe 5MPG more at the most! best i have got is 20mph and thats keeping it under 2k RPM’s and plus the tundra has a lot more room in side and out. also has a lot more fetchers that the taco does not. like heated mirrors, dual climate control. live MPG read out.
Agreed. IMHO you can’t comparer the 2 trucks.

and also even if toyota did come out with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton with a diesel idk if it would have the pulling power that the bigger trucks have. I’m sure it would be close. but the big three have worked out the “problems"
and this!! idk why everyone hates dodge trucks, when dodge does not even make the ram anymore.

and have driven both a ’09 silverado and a ’11 tundra, the tundra rides and drives much nicer, and all around quality is much much better IMHO. My brother has had both, and he also likes the tundra a lot better.

The Big Three still refuse to follow the SAE J2807 tow capacity standard for fear of losing a marketing edge...

Toyota would source the diesel motor from Hino. Don't think there will be a power deficit if they chose to do it. But it's all speculation since the concept truck was never productionized:

Don't know what's the big deal with the Cummins name. Ram's transmission isn't as good as Chevy's Allison unit. The Duramax-Allison combo also has better exhaust brake performance.

@carguysc: There are a few Tundra owners here, with a forum subsection: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tundras/

True they will. and toyota already follows the SAE standard.

also the cummins engine it self is a lot better then the D-max. only problem they have is mostly with their auto trans, and heavy towing. But also have some problems with their M/T. From what i have read they did come out with a new trans a few years ago and have had less problems.

The Allison trans is a very good trans and is hard to beat.
